Commercial Description:
This Divine Reserve was inspired by the winning entry of the 2007 Big Batch Brew Bash homebrew competition, brewed by Mike Heniff, a highly decorated local Houston homebrewer. Russian Imperial Stouts are very big and very black and this one is no exception. DR5 has a rich malty body full of coffee and chocolate flavors and a spiciness derived from the combination hops and high alcohol. It was brewed with a variety of malts including 2 row pale, crystal, chocolate and roasted barley. It was hopped with Nugget, Willamette and Centennial. We used an American ale yeast to ferment it. It is unfiltered. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer with some dark chocolate or a bowl of vanilla ice cream.

Bottle pours pitch black with thin dark tan head that fades quickly. Aroma is dark complex roast, caramel chocolate, coffee, and a touch of oxidation. Heavy mouthfeel. Flavor follow the nose exactly. This brew is rich, oily, clings to the glass, and is really good. Thanks Santa!

big thanks goes out to lumpy for finishing off the divine reserve series for me and for my 600th rating. poured motor oil black with a copper head and some dianna ross type legs. aroma was caramel, chocolate mint, cigarette ash, and alcohol. flavor was caramel, alcohol, some good bitterness, dark roast, and cough syrup. body was medium-full with low carbonation and slick body.

(Bottle via trade with WeeHeavySD, thanks Jon!) Extremely good...Pours very, very dark brown - inky looking. Thin tan head recedes to a thin ring around the edges. Rich aroma features dark and milk chocolate, port, molasses, prune and coffee - yum. Mouthfeel is smooth and silky, with a nice amount of heft supporting it, esp. for the style. Lacing consists of light spots and a light syrupy film inside the snifter. Flavor is big and rich with lots of molasses, port, raisin, dark coffee roast and chocolate, all nicely balanced together - the port quality is esp. outstanding. ABV is warming but is well-hidden in the flavor. Very, very light hint of grassiness in finish. A really tasty and elegant Imp Stout.

Dark brown to black with a tan brown head. Roasty to creamy with light hops. Lightly sweet. Light roast. Creamy full mouth, medium carbonation. Fruity roast, creamy. Slight hops. Coffee. Lingering roast, not near charcoal. Light alcohol. A nice rich but not palate shattering imperial stout!

Bottle thanks to Zinister!
Sepia with a tan head. Lots of roasted malt on the nose, but not to overbearing lengths. Also chocolate, raisin, some slight plum. Flavor is pretty straightforward with lots of roasted malt through the finish, a little cocoa. Salty and thin, slightly ashy. Somewhat unique but not really groundbreaking.

From the bottle, courtesy of Secret Santa, pours black with a thin tan head. Smells darkly malty and with a hint of alcohol. Very thick but quite smooth. Extra malty, some alcohol, roasted grains, a little chocoloate. Finishes bitter but not overly so. Pretty good beer, but probably can only take one in a night.

My bottle (12oz) shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- courtesy of TheEpeeist. Pours a very dark brown with a small diminishing creamy light-brown head. Nice aroma of roasted malt, lots of hops, dark chocolate, dark fruit and some alcohol. Flavour’s roasty, again with lots of hops and some alcohol as well as bitter chocolate and a very bitter roasty finish. Medium bodied, oily mouthfeel. Kind of Old Rasputin-ish to me. Very good stuff!
