Commercial Description:
This Divine Reserve was inspired by the winning entry of the 2007 Big Batch Brew Bash homebrew competition, brewed by Mike Heniff, a highly decorated local Houston homebrewer. Russian Imperial Stouts are very big and very black and this one is no exception. DR5 has a rich malty body full of coffee and chocolate flavors and a spiciness derived from the combination hops and high alcohol. It was brewed with a variety of malts including 2 row pale, crystal, chocolate and roasted barley. It was hopped with Nugget, Willamette and Centennial. We used an American ale yeast to ferment it. It is unfiltered. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer with some dark chocolate or a bowl of vanilla ice cream.

Bottle (12oz). Shared by blankboy with me and garthicus. Poured opaque brown-black with an average creamy/frothy light brown head. Aromas of coffee, bitter chocolate, prunes and cereal grain a touch lactic and metallic on my nose. The taste, no metal, intensely bitter and roasted to the point of tasting burnt - like scorched chocolate ... and nothing like 10% ABV. Slick and silky mouthfeel, a bit undercarbonated, but a nice long bitter finish to it. Very, very good, not quite balanced, but not overwhelmed by alcohol, and that’s always nice.

Bottle courtesy of golubj. Color of dark brown to black with a smallish light brown head. Aroma was strong on fruits and berries. Also hints of caramel, roasted malt and cocoa. Flavor was really heavy on the chocolate. Roasted malt, with some meat and earthiness. I enjoyed this better than the 6.

bottle, from trade with... I,m not sure, probably 123456green or bu11zeye. Good aroma. not strong, bitter sweet Baking chocolate, caramel, molasses, little berry. Blackish brown color, Small head that quickly went to a ring, then nothing. Bitter sweet flavor, like aroma, bitter chocolate, little grapefruit too. Thick body, creamy mouth feel, bitter dry finish, Tasty brew, aroma may have mellowed with age. not as diverse in flavor as some, but still darn good. Thanks person who I,m forgetting....

Aroma is great really roasted malt characteristics, chocolate, almost a dark fruit characteristic, caramel, and roasted peanuts. Appearance is a pitch black pour with a large tan head that diminishes slowly. Taste is got a overtone of the roasted malt, chocolate, espresso coffee, and an all around nuttiness to this brew. Heavy on the tonge, then finishes with an aftertaste of the roasted malt. Overall, I think this is a nice Imperial Stout. Not my favorite, but it is fine all the same. Cheers!

This poured black in color with a moderate brown head of fine bubbles that faded away. The nose showed aromas of sweet dark fruit, dark caramel, and chocolate. In the mouth this was malt-driven with flavors of dark fruit, caramel and chocolate. This was well-balanced by fine carbonation in the midpalate.

12oz bottle via trade with biz82, thanks Josh. Jet black pour with a light brown head. More dark fruits than coffee or chocolate like expected in an aroma. Lots of dark chocolate in the flavor though, slight bitterness at the finish. Pretty good.

Bottle courtesy of lb4lb. Pours black with a circling archipelago of thin bubbles. The nose is of yeasty dark fruit, sweet dark roast, chocolate covered raisins and light alcohol. Medium-bodied and slick with a roasty, chalky, boozy finish. The flavor is of sweet, dark fruit backed by roasty dark malt transitioning to a roasty/hoppy bitter finish. This is a decent brew but certainly unspectacular for the style. As highly regarded as this beer is, I was expecting to be more impressed, but I am glad to have had the opportunity to try it. Thanks for sending me this one, Deniz.
