Commercial Description:
This Divine Reserve was inspired by the winning entry of the 2007 Big Batch Brew Bash homebrew competition, brewed by Mike Heniff, a highly decorated local Houston homebrewer. Russian Imperial Stouts are very big and very black and this one is no exception. DR5 has a rich malty body full of coffee and chocolate flavors and a spiciness derived from the combination hops and high alcohol. It was brewed with a variety of malts including 2 row pale, crystal, chocolate and roasted barley. It was hopped with Nugget, Willamette and Centennial. We used an American ale yeast to ferment it. It is unfiltered. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer with some dark chocolate or a bowl of vanilla ice cream.

9-11-07, rerate 9-24-07, Bottle. Roasted fruit aroma - somewhat of a burnt bitter smell. Amazing aroma of fresh bananas. Can smell the alcohol slightly when it warms. Rich black color with thick tan head - perfect appearance. Quite rich, heavy and creamy. Flavor really stands out! Can begin to taste hints of alcohol as well. Great amount of bitterness to it with an ideal finish. I just wish I couldn’t smell or taste the alcohol as much as it warmed.

Suttree’s 2008 Pre-Brewer’s Jam Tasting. Sample from a bottle thanks to Suttree. Pitch black pour with a thick brown head that coats the glass and leaves a nice ring at the edges. Viscous with a sweet chocolate and roasted nut aroma. Body is chocolate and sweet light coffee with a vinuous red wine or cherry bite.

Brown, Brown head. Some odd nutty aromas, mixed with more traditional smells like coffee and chocolate Flavor is smililar, with a lot of chocolate up front and a winey finish. Thanks to KAggie or this trade!

12oz i’m guessing that came from lb4lb. Shared with my gf Cyn. Pours black with a 1 finger tan head. Nose is sweet and rich with lots of chocolate and coffee notes. Taste is sweet and chocolately but not any where near as rich as the nose portends. Overall nice mouth feel after a while. Nice beer overall.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a huge, dark brown head covering a black body. Aroma of soy, chocolate, alcohol, and cinnamon. Taste is coffee, alcohol, chocolate, smoke, spices, and overall, pretty rich. Syrupy mouthfeel, light carbonation.

Bottle shared by doulos31/goodgrief. Pour was typical for the style, dark brown-black but with only a normal/weak looking head. The aroma was vinous, coffee, chocolate. The flavor followed the aroma while it finished with some roasted ashy notes, though. Slightly bitter finish, probably more from the roast than any substanial hopping. Mouthfeel was slightly acidic, a little on the light side for the style. A decent but not wonderful brew. Thanks for sharing, Tom!
