Commercial Description:
This is a big, malty, hoppy barleywine. Yet with all of the intense flavors, they meld together to create a well-balanced big beer. The nose has a strong resiny hop note. The taste starts with a combination of the malty sweetness and spicy hops with both flavors magnified by the high alcohol level. The spiciness carries through the middle and finishes with a satisfyingly dry bitter. It was brewed with 2 row pale, Caramunich and Special B malts with brown sugar added in the kettle and hopped with 225 lbs of Columbus hops including 44 lbs that were dry hopped. We used our Saint Arnold yeast strain which gives a rich, creamy mouthfeel to the brew. It is unfiltered and will clarify with aging. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer. This beer will age well. Original Gravity: 1.094 Final Gravity: 1.019

Absolutley loved this offering, and hope it will be brewed again soon! Beautiful copper color with light head, singing with hop aroma. Less sweet than most other barleywine I’ve had, and much stronger hop character, though suprisingly less hop flavor than expected for the aroma. Strong alcohol flavor as expected with a barleywine, but slightly thin mouthfeel dtracts from palate. All in all, good work Brock!

A whiskey colored beer that sticks to the glass like, well whiskey does. Pour with a neglidgable head. Smells like, oak wood, sugar and alcohol. Flavor is the same. Runny, but tenacious texture. Carbonation is low, and finish has that slow burn.

Served in tulip glass: Crimson and brownish hue with a nice creamy beige head which left excellent lacing upon the glass. Rich malty nose of caramel and toasted bread vapours. Additionally you can find some spicy, resiny and fruity hop notes as well. The aroma got a bit catty as it warmed. The taste is more bitter that expected but this is not a bad thing. Juicy twangy hop hit you across the palate before the sweeter malt comes around to add some semblance of balance. A bit sugary and metallic upon the hop spice finish. The mouth feel is slightly oily and sticky, mild carbonation livens the palate. All told a very nice barleywine indeed. Hit the spot on this cold wintery day.

Bottle... Clear copper ale with a small, creamy, white head. Caramel, tropical fruit and resin unify to create an entertaining fragrance. Full-bodied and a little oily with gentle carbonation. Leans toward the bitter side of balance with heaps of grapefruit and caramel. The lengthy finish is bittersweet, coarse and then dry. Kudos to SoLan for sharing his bottle!

12 oz thanks to lb4lb who hooked me up with this as an extra (!) in a trade. 12 oz bottle into snifter served at 50F from cellar. Great looking beer with a clear dark mahogany red body with big off white, light tan head that holds remarkably well and leaves great lace. Aroma is unique with citrus hop, buiscuity malt, and strange almost metallic note. The flavor is a notch above without the metallic note. Very doughy and hoppy but with great balance and hints of maple syrup and pine hops. There is an alcohol bite but this thing is very drinkable - a great sipper I could work on all night. Medium to heavy body with medium carbonation and a dry finish. Overall: thanks so much 4lb, this is great stuff and still tastes remarkably fresh, despite the twist off cap.

Bottle courtesy of bockyhorsey. Pours a nice hazy brown with a foamy off white head. Aroma is caramel, faded hops, citrus, pine. Flavor is caramel, faded hops, malt, nice bittering hops in the finish are well balanced with all the malts. Nice barleywine. Thanks Bill!

Bottle, I think thanks to BBG. Aroma is the sweet dense caramel malt, some peppery alcohol, similar to bigfoot. Flavor is the same, dense sweetness, peppery alcohol and hoppy bitterness.
