Commercial Description:
This is a big, malty, hoppy barleywine. Yet with all of the intense flavors, they meld together to create a well-balanced big beer. The nose has a strong resiny hop note. The taste starts with a combination of the malty sweetness and spicy hops with both flavors magnified by the high alcohol level. The spiciness carries through the middle and finishes with a satisfyingly dry bitter. It was brewed with 2 row pale, Caramunich and Special B malts with brown sugar added in the kettle and hopped with 225 lbs of Columbus hops including 44 lbs that were dry hopped. We used our Saint Arnold yeast strain which gives a rich, creamy mouthfeel to the brew. It is unfiltered and will clarify with aging. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer. This beer will age well. Original Gravity: 1.094 Final Gravity: 1.019

Bottled sample via and shared with oakbluff. Amber in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas of cookie dough, citrusy hops, and a bit of green pine. Fairly hop forward in the mouth, with more c hops leading the way. The malts are restrained, and more bready and sweet biscuity as opposed to caramel like. Medium bodied, with a sharply focused bitter finish. Definitely a lighter, hoppier barleywine, which is just how I like them.

(12oz. bottle) Pours a cloudy deep amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of cherry, bread, strawberries, and toffee. Flavor of caramel, brown sugar, cherry, bread, and mild hops (pine).

bottle, from 123456green, Good aroma, sweet. Fruity. Grapefruit, berry, date. Dark orangy brown color. Good head, faded to a ring, ok lace. Bitter sweet flavor, like aroma, has a wood streak about it. Medium body, creamy viscous mouth feel, bitter dry finish. Tasty. aroma was at its best cold as it got a bit muddles as it warmed. Flavor had bite, but not quite as interesting as aroma. St Arnold is one I look forward to.

Pours a nice fiery reddish brown with a thick khaki head that leaved decent lace. A bit on the hazy side with some particles floating around there. Hoppy nose with tons of grapefruit and a bit of pine. There plenty of toffee malt character here too. Medium, and easily drinkable with a hoppy and alcoholic hot finish. Not a bad beer at all, but far form a classic.

12oz bottle from biz82, thanks Josh. Dark copper pour. Aroma is much hoppier than #1, more like Bigfoot. Much hoppier taste as well, with some nice maltyness to even things out. Very tasty barley wine.

12-oz. Thanks, Theisti! Pours a crystal clear dark amber under a dense but shallow tan foamy head. Big nose of caramel, smoke, biscuit, and oranges, at the very least. There are probably other things there for the more olfactorily gifted to discover. Creamy, sticky body. Earth, leaves, biscuit, caramel, and smoke on the mid-palate. Long dry finish. Definitely a little triumph here for St Arnold.
