Pours a cloudy deep amber/orange with a small tall head and a tiny bit of lace clings to my snifter. Huge sweet nose with caramel, molasses and malt being the dominant aromas. Nice heavy body with very low carbonation. You could almost take a bite out of it. Flavor is typical barleywine sweetness. You can taste flavors of candied fruit, molasses, and hops along with a small alcohol background. Very tasty treat. m4rest88 (217), Beverly Hills, California, USA

Not the biggest fan of barley wines, and this did not change my opinion of them. RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA

Aroma is stunning with plum and cherry notes. Sweet candy also comes to mind. Wonderfully viscous with tastes of those same dark fruits and a great malt backbone to round them out. Not overly sweet but just right. Really nice finish with a sweet surprise to close it out. Very nice. A big thanks to Bockyhorsey for a stellar beer from Texas. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 6, 2008 Bottle shared with durhambeer and emacgee - thanks to whichever one of you provided this one! A superlative American barleywine for sure, and a real surprise! Nice cloudy orange pour. Fruity nose, quite hop forward even here. What I most appreciated was the way St. A combines the fruity, hoppy, floral qualities of the American BWs with the intense malty features of the English, with the whole somehow managing to remain clean and easy-drinking. But of a burn on the end, but that’s just the beer giving you a little kiss goodnight.
