Commercial Description:
This is a big, malty, hoppy barleywine. Yet with all of the intense flavors, they meld together to create a well-balanced big beer. The nose has a strong resiny hop note. The taste starts with a combination of the malty sweetness and spicy hops with both flavors magnified by the high alcohol level. The spiciness carries through the middle and finishes with a satisfyingly dry bitter. It was brewed with 2 row pale, Caramunich and Special B malts with brown sugar added in the kettle and hopped with 225 lbs of Columbus hops including 44 lbs that were dry hopped. We used our Saint Arnold yeast strain which gives a rich, creamy mouthfeel to the brew. It is unfiltered and will clarify with aging. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer. This beer will age well. Original Gravity: 1.094 Final Gravity: 1.019

Murky amber. Very toasty, chewy with lots of crystal malt. Big, unrefinned BW nose. Chewy, some light, gummy flavours. Almost a light, juicy, fruit character. I wrote that it needs more time but I liked it better four months ago. 2 5 2 5 11 = 2.5

Reddish-amber with some haze. Alcoholic, caramelly aroma. Some mapley notes with demerara accent. Big spicy, alcholic character. Flavourful. 7 3 7 3 14 = 3.4

Sixxer thanks to ilovedarkbeer. Pours a hazy brown with a long lasting off-white head. Great lacing, full retention. Aroma of floral and spicy hops, some tangy toffee and a bit of raspberry too. Taste is hops and then a very balanced sweetness from molasses and brown sugar. Very well balanced, Syrupy mouthfeel and very decent warming from the alcohol. Should age really well.

It’s a rust colored, very nice looking beer with a fairly well lasting foam, but it isn’t bottle conditioned. Fairly nice nose, dominated by honey covered fruits, super citrusy, lemon-like, piney hops. Flavor is hop accented, dominated by heavy bitterness and resiny hops, grapefruit, pine and also a little bit of caramel-like malts. A high quality, well crafted offering.

Bottle from BlackforestCO, Thanks!! Pours a thick hazy orange color with no head. Aroma of malt, light caramel, and fruity citrus hops. The taste was trhe same with nice sweetness and earthy hop flavors in the finish. MORE, MORE, MORE.....

8/21/08 12 oz bottle from Kaggie97! Thanks Kevin!!! Nose is light piney and citrusy hops, with caramel, plums, brown sugar and a very light vanilla note; cloudy copper with a medium, beige, lightly lacing head; flavor is lightly bitter, brown sugar, with plummy dark fruitiness. Excellent barleywine; I am saving a couple to see how it ages! 9/4/9/4/18 3.4 8/16/09 another Kaggie bottle! Thanks Kevin!Nose has less hops and more wonderful BW complexity; toffee, prunes, and vanilla caramels. Cloudy rust with a big, glass-lacing beige head. Flavor lighter bitterness, almost a candisugary quad like note, and lots of caramel. Excellent!

I had never had a barley wine until I tried this beer. Wow, strong and delicipous. Definately a sipper drink. Dark, with a burnt flavor profile. Mixed feelings as far as how much I went through to get it!

I let this one settle down for a while. When fresh it was a huge hop bomb and a little abrasive for me, but after a couple months this one has settled down nicely. Pours a glowing, hazy amber with a fluffy light yellowish head. Smells of juicy citrus and a hefty amount of caramelized malts. Taste is similar with a huge (but no longer abrasive), citrus hop punch and an extremely smooth caramel malt backbone. Smooth and medium carbonation. This one is really coming into its own after a disappointing start for me. I can’t wait to see what more time does for it.

At Vero. Dark reddish wood color. Rusty and fruity aromas. Malty and metallic and a little bit burnt.
