Commercial Description:
This is a big, malty, hoppy barleywine. Yet with all of the intense flavors, they meld together to create a well-balanced big beer. The nose has a strong resiny hop note. The taste starts with a combination of the malty sweetness and spicy hops with both flavors magnified by the high alcohol level. The spiciness carries through the middle and finishes with a satisfyingly dry bitter. It was brewed with 2 row pale, Caramunich and Special B malts with brown sugar added in the kettle and hopped with 225 lbs of Columbus hops including 44 lbs that were dry hopped. We used our Saint Arnold yeast strain which gives a rich, creamy mouthfeel to the brew. It is unfiltered and will clarify with aging. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer. This beer will age well. Original Gravity: 1.094 Final Gravity: 1.019

sampled with the phoenix crew. brought out by bockyhorsey... pours a rich brownish copper color with a tan head and lacing that paints the inside of the snifter... aroma and flavor are brown sugar, malty goodness, earthy spice and grapefruit. a touch floral toward the bitter finish. hoppy dryness lingers for a long while. the alcohol barely makes it’s presence known... kinda like a ninja. flat on your back in both cases. medium body. rather crisp, dry and insanely quaffable. it is pretty straight forward and delicious because of that...

Appearance: Pours a hazy, mahogany-hued body with a thinning, ivory-colored head. Smell: Toasted malts in the aroma as well as some slight fruity esters and a flourish of floral and herbal notes. Taste: Toasty, caramel-coated maltiness with a brief sweetness that quickly yields to rather assertive, strong earthy hops and bitterness. Tiny drizzle of peach juice, a pinch of lemon zest. A touch floral and herbal, but some of these more subtler flavor get blanketed under the bitterness. Remains cutting, hopwise, into the finish which lingers further into the aftertaste. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Mild carbonation. Drinkability: Definitely a hop-forward barleywine at the moment, I can’t wait till a day when I can enjoy a Divine Reserve 6 with that many years on it. See you all in 2014, friends!

12 oz bottle courtesy of Zinister. Pour is a cloudy deep orange brown with a big off white head. Great lacing. Aroma of piney-grainy hoppiness and some nice roasted maltiness. Taste is bold piney bitterness, earthy - grainy and a nice malt body. there is a touch of fruit in the taste as well, citrus and fresh. After taste reveals the alcohol, and the finish is quite hot. Nice one, might keep the other bottle for awhile. Thanks for giving me this one Mike!

Mar, you are the man for this one. Wow, what a beer. Pours a cloudy dark amber color with a small white head. Aromas are sweet and hoppy. Simple, but true. The flavor is a hop bomb on the front then you taste nice sweet malt and spice on the middle of the tongue, then giving way to the hops yet again on the back. Really a great, great beer.

This is one of the better barleywines out there. Strong hop character masks the alcohol very well. Very drinkable. This brew has the refinement expected out of old-world brews, but rarely duplicated in the states.

Pours to a clean orange body with a foamy white head. The aroma is extremely hoppy with a fruity pine and pineapple. The flavor is hoppy with pine and spruce. Simple but hoppy. The palate is bitter and has a medium mouthfeel and nice texture. More of an IIPA than a barleywine.
