Commercial Description:
This is a big, malty, hoppy barleywine. Yet with all of the intense flavors, they meld together to create a well-balanced big beer. The nose has a strong resiny hop note. The taste starts with a combination of the malty sweetness and spicy hops with both flavors magnified by the high alcohol level. The spiciness carries through the middle and finishes with a satisfyingly dry bitter. It was brewed with 2 row pale, Caramunich and Special B malts with brown sugar added in the kettle and hopped with 225 lbs of Columbus hops including 44 lbs that were dry hopped. We used our Saint Arnold yeast strain which gives a rich, creamy mouthfeel to the brew. It is unfiltered and will clarify with aging. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer. This beer will age well. Original Gravity: 1.094 Final Gravity: 1.019

(12oz bottle thanks to mar) Pours a dark orange, with big oily tan bubbles and low head. Nose is huge caramel, brown sugar. Taste is spicy hops, sweet caramel malts, and finishes quite creamy.

[2279-20090614] Bottle. Heavily toasted yeast aroma. Murky, dark brown amber body with a medium-lasting creamy light yellow head. Sweet heavy roast and toasted malt flavour. Full body. Strong and boozy.

MAJOR thanks goes out to ericandersnavy for this one! What a generous guy. Cloudy red orange. Nice tan head. Sediment is still apparent. Complex aroma. Woody aroma with heavy aged flavors. Some caramel and sweet aromas also. Very nice. Glorious taste. Wonderful taste of carmelized sugars, wood and aged hops. Having aged this bottle for 2 years, it is vastly superb.

July 2008: Saint Arnold Divine Reserve No. #6 has a floral and citrus hop aroma and a very floral and citrusy hop flavor. There is some sugary malt as well. This beer a cloudy golden-amber/brown. It has an ivory-colored head that leaves some good lacing. This medium-bodied beer has an average palate. Overall this is a decent American-style Barleywine.

12 fl. oz. bottle shared by alexsdad06. Thanks Brad! Rating #215 for this beer.

12ozer. served into a snifter. Pour is deep ruby with a small ring of caramel colored head. Aromas of rasins, caramel, oak, and sweet malts. Flavor is full of cherries, candy, caramel, and a bit of hops in the finish. Outstanding bw and mellow as hell.

Thanks to Sam for this one, rating #600! This looks very nice in the glass, a deep almost velvet red with small, tight, but good head that leaves some lace. The aroma is cherries, alcohol, and some sweet malt, very cordial like. This is one of the better barley wines I’ve tasted with nice deep cherry flavors, some chocolate, a bit of spiciness perhaps left over from the hops, and just a touch of brandy.

Had the aroma of chocolate, cherries and caramel. The flavor was very surprising (in a good way) and was very smooth with lots of chocolate, a little bit of alcohol, and hops. Haven’t had many BWs in the past, but this one is definitely high up on my list for them.
