Commercial Description:
This is a big, malty, hoppy barleywine. Yet with all of the intense flavors, they meld together to create a well-balanced big beer. The nose has a strong resiny hop note. The taste starts with a combination of the malty sweetness and spicy hops with both flavors magnified by the high alcohol level. The spiciness carries through the middle and finishes with a satisfyingly dry bitter. It was brewed with 2 row pale, Caramunich and Special B malts with brown sugar added in the kettle and hopped with 225 lbs of Columbus hops including 44 lbs that were dry hopped. We used our Saint Arnold yeast strain which gives a rich, creamy mouthfeel to the brew. It is unfiltered and will clarify with aging. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer. This beer will age well. Original Gravity: 1.094 Final Gravity: 1.019

Thanks to Sam for this one, rating #600! This looks very nice in the glass, a deep almost velvet red with small, tight, but good head that leaves some lace. The aroma is cherries, alcohol, and some sweet malt, very cordial like. This is one of the better barley wines I’ve tasted with nice deep cherry flavors, some chocolate, a bit of spiciness perhaps left over from the hops, and just a touch of brandy.

Had the aroma of chocolate, cherries and caramel. The flavor was very surprising (in a good way) and was very smooth with lots of chocolate, a little bit of alcohol, and hops. Haven’t had many BWs in the past, but this one is definitely high up on my list for them.

Aroma-caramelly, little bit of chocolate. Some hop soap. Some cherry sweetness. Quite warming, but not in a harsh way. Lots of chocolate in the flavor. Pretty smooth mouthfeel. Pretty hoppy finish, mixed with lots of chocolate does good things.

#1000..yeehaww!!! 12oz bottle from kaggie BIG BIG THANKS!). Pours a dark reddish hazy cooper almost brown with a large chunky beige head. TONS of spider lace left on my mug as head dissipates. Nose is wondrous story of fruity esters and fruity hops....methinks this is going to be A good one. Hmmm the taste is not quite up to the aroma, but is still quite good. Starts sweet...dates, plums. berries, then the hops hit..orange, apricot, grapefruit, and a LONG lingering pine finish. I swear i can even taste a l bit of coaoca and coffe in there somewhere. Quite complex. Finish is semi-dry and the pine lingers. Pretty hoppy for a 1 year old BW...

Bottle. Thanks to MaltOMeal. Pours a clear amber color with a small off-white head. Has a malty hoppy aroma with some hints of caramel and some hints of dark fruit. Has a sweetish malty hoppy bitter flavor with some hints of caramel and dark fruit. Warming malty hoppy finish with some hints of dark fruit in the aftertaste. A nice one.

Waxed 12 oz bottle. I don’t recall who sent this to me, but THANKS! Murky golden brown with a thin beige head. Earthy nose, some citrus and caramel. Tangy hop bite, bitter and dry, piney and earthy. As complex as it is, it comes off... kinda boring. Still, a good BW.

Bottle, from secret Santa. A nice cloudy dark amber color body with a lasting two finger light tan head ,light to medium carbonation, loads of lacing left all down the glass. Aroma of caramel ,light pine resin , fruit, and some spicy hops. Flavor is malty and sweet with some spicy hops, some oaky wood type notes, resin, brown sugar, and just a bit of alcohol, nice level of bitternss. Full body with a creamy mouthfeel ,slightly sticky, very good. A sweet, hoppy finish . A real treat to try , Top shelf brew for sure.
