Beautiful copper color with light head, singing with hop aroma. Less sweet than most other barleywine I’ve had, and much stronger hop character, though suprisingly less hop flavor than expected for the aroma. Strong alcohol flavor as expected with a barleywine, but slightly thin mouthfeel dtracts from palate. All in all, good work Brock! IrishBoy (2719), Bakersfield, California, USA

Nose is light piney and citrusy hops, with caramel, plums, brown sugar and a very light vanilla note; cloudy copper with a medium, beige, lightly lacing head; flavor is lightly bitter, brown sugar, with plummy dark fruitiness. Excellent barleywine; I am saving a couple to see how it ages! 9/4/9/4/18 3.4
8/16/09 another Kaggie bottle! Thanks Kevin!Nose has less hops and more wonderful BW complexity; toffee, prunes, and vanilla caramels. Cloudy rust with a big, glass-lacing beige head. Flavor lighter bitterness, almost a candisugary quad like note, and lots of caramel. Excellent! Fratto (751), Arlington, Texas, USA

This is what I would imagine the Mephistopheles (and the like) would be like if they were more flavorful and less of a punch. It’s complex and amazing. hoplover (166), Corpus Christi, Texas, USA

The amout of Columbus hops is what does it for me. I love Columbus hops! Right away I was blatsed with a punjent aroma of hops.... sweet hops.... flowery hops....almost an orangy smell. That aroma alone does me in. Not to mention the color. This Divine Beer pours a heavenly foggy dirty orange, and the visibility is 1 inch. The head is a light tan cloud that gives off that wonderful aroma. It stays around till your ready to call it a night. And the flavor is very malty and very hoppy at the same time. I’m enjoying a healthy helping of each in one bottle. Added to all that...the beer is soooo smooth, no harshness at all. Summed up, it’s a beautiful beer that I will buy more of.
Thank you St Arnold. May the Lord bless the hop harvest. GG (1656), NorCal, California, USA

The beer pours out a cloudy color of melted caramel candies, with an off-white fluffy head with a bunch of large bubbles. The head created was nice and thick and stayed the entire time I drank this beauty. The aroma was major hoppage. Fantastic citrusy aroma, tons of resin, alcohol, sweet malts, bready and a bit of the vine...reminded me of the smell of a brewhouse. Flavor was just a flat out assault of hops. Tons of juicy bitter hops, slightly oxidized, sweet malts, caramels, with a slightly hot finish. Harsh on the tongue and loved every minute of it. Thick and chewy up front with a smooth, last finish. Damned near perfect. graham515 (433), Houston, Texas, USA

Aroma is nice and piney with some real floral hop character and a subtle sweetness. Flavor is wonderful with plenty of sweet sugary malt flavor cut by the intense hopping. Smooth across the palate with some nice alcoholic warmth. Really a big beer mmmbeer (765), Austin, Texas, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jun 20, 2008 12 oz. bottle that is harder to find than Jesus Christ served in snifter glass at BB Rover’s on 6-19-08: poured non transparent darkened amber with a purple hue, insignificant carbonation, small 1/4 finger off tan head formed but disappeared within a few minutes, aroma of hops, hops, hops, and notes of resin, maltose, and cut pine. Hits the mouth with body that if high-medium and makes it’s width noticeable to even those less experienced with drinking the style, sweetness starts immediately but slowly transitions to hoppy burness and sweet stickiness that lasts well after each small swallow. Finish keeps going for miles. My first perfect 5 rating? Yes... except for a whole .5 point reduction due to the general uneasiness to find and experience this very great brew. If not for an old friend at a bar that set aside some specifically for regulars only once supplies got low, I would not have been able to try this now, and WILL NOT be allowed to try one after it has aged, let alone share some with rating friends. The majority of stores sold out here in less than 2 days after release on average (I saw Divine 5,4, and 3 MONTHS after release in certain stores...hmmm)- so unless you know someone that has some and is willing to share without having to perform sexual favors, or care to put a 2nd mortgage on your home, let this be one that got away from you. Don’t blame me, blame the f’n beerpagners. Cavie (1489), Fort Worth, Texas, USA

Nice tan head. Sediment is still apparent. Complex aroma. Woody aroma with heavy aged flavors. Some caramel and sweet aromas also. Very nice. Glorious taste. Wonderful taste of carmelized sugars, wood and aged hops. Having aged this bottle for 2 years, it is vastly superb.
