Commercial Description:
This is a dark, slightly chocolatey weizenbock with an undercurrent of bananas and cloves. There is a slight spiciness from the hops and a balanced malt that hides the strength of the beer. It was brewed with Dark Wheat, Light Wheat, Chocolate Wheat, Pilsner, Munich, Special B and Chocolate malts and Northern Brewer hops. We used a traditional Bavarian hefeweizen yeast which gives the beer its distinctive clove and banana character. It is unfiltered. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer. We are curious to see how this beer will age.

12oz thanks to TheBeerSommelier. Pours an extremely muddy brownish red color with a substantial, fluffy, compact off white head with tremendous lacing. Aroma shows diaper, esters, a wussy coffee drink, chocolate covered bananas. Some general fruitiness is also present. The chocolate component is really nice, increasing as the beer warms. The phenols and esters are not too strong as some in this style. The flavor is more banana and clove like than the aroma. After that it fades to a nice subtle chocolate and leaves a dry, cocoa finish. The mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. Moderately carbonated, medium body, very nice feeling on the palate. Round and soft without much sweetness. This is very pleasant.

Pours a nice dark brown color, nice carbonation, nice one-finger creamy off-white head, with some nice sticky lacing left behind. The nose is malty, with some toffee/chocolate, and some spice. The taste is slightly sweet, malty, with the dark stuff, and spice. Medium body. Very drinkable, this is a very nice tasty brew.

Bottle. Roasty chocolate nose with light banana and musk. Brown-black with a thin patchy head. Sharp roastiness and a slightly tart metallic flavor. Chocolate notes in the finish. Sharp but thin mouthfeel.

12 oz from Zinister. Pour is a very dark brown, with only the slightest ruby highlights. Nice 1 1/2 inch tan head falls quickly with no lacing. Pretty beer. Aroma of sweet black cherry - the sweet of the fruit without the tartness. Grainy wheatiness behind that as it warms and opens. Taste is sharp sour sweet black cherry, turning to a acidic floral honey mid palate, finishing with the maltiness. The wheat contributes to the body making this full bodied yet drinkable. Overall this was tasty, but pretty jagged and sharp on the initial taste. Perhaps some time will mellow this a bit. Thanks for sending this my way, Michael.

Saint Arnold Divine Reserve #7 came to me in a trade from mhewes. I chose a flute to pour this into, and it looked much darker than I was expecting. When held up against the light, the deep brown liquid also proved to be as opaque as a stout. The head atop though was quite small to begin with, and did not last long enough for me to observe anything else about it. The smell was classic Weizenbock, with equal parts of dark fruits like plums. and light ones like bananas. These were supplemented by earthy and spicy smelling noble hops and yeast. The taste was a lot lighter than I was expecting. The Weizen fruitiness and clove-banana flavor profile was there, but the bock like heft was lacking. The body was slippery and light, and the aftertaste consisted mostly of a dash of spice that faded rapidly. Not quite as evocative as the benchmark Aventinus nor as innovative as the Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse.

12oz bottle. Big thanks to Thickerfreakness for this one. Pours dark brown with tan head. Aroma is typical weizenbock with clove and banana with nice malt and brown sugar. Flavor is again big with clove and banana with nice maltiness, brown sugar and dark fruits. About as good as a weizenbock can get. Good stuff.
