theisti (1638), Leawood, Kansas, USA Nov 5, 2009 12 oz bottle given to me by Kaggie97. Pour is a slight hazed ruby orange copper with a 2 inch golden tan head. Aroma of grainy earthy malt, sharp peat and dusty / dirty floral heather type sweetness. Sweet is muted, mostly about the big malt and peat. Taste is the nose, with big grainy malt and peat, followed by a bright floral heather sweetness. Hint of alcohol in the back, though this complements the peat nicely. Palate is medium, perhaps a tad lighter than I was expecting. Nice active carbonation makes this one easy to drink. Thanks for this one Kevin. douglas88 (1556), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Nov 3, 2009 12 ounce bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours a very cloudy dark amber color with loads of particulates swirling around. A sweet nutty toasted nose, fruity malts. The taste is very good; sweet toasted malts, fruity, caramel, light smoke. Very drinkable and warm. Very tasty. b33rfenzy (1), USA does not count Nov 3, 2009 Shared bottle ( 12oz ) with a generous friend. The aroma from the reddish-orange amber yet hazy brew was surprisingly sweet and roasty. If held near a light you can see and appreciate the look of the unfiltered amber ale. Most def a delicious scotchish ale. Definately a favorite. Boutip (2333), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Nov 1, 2009 Bottle: Poured a deep copper color ale with a large foamy head with OK retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of sweet caramelized malt is dominating with light toffee notes and some lingering smoke. Taste is sweeter then expected with loads of caramelized malt and sweet toffee with a light smoky finish. Body is quite full with limited filtration and good carbonation with no signs of alcohol. Well done though a bit sweet for my taste – bonus point for the smoke notes thought. kiefdog (1567), Tampa, Florida, USA Nov 1, 2009 Bottle coutesy ericandersnavy. Pours a reddish amber color with off white 1 finger head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of earthy peat, light hints of chocolate, caramel, some light spice. Flavor is smoky wood with notes of some raisins and figs, fresh dirt, caramel, light notes of chocolate. Medium body with smoky malt finish. I’ve had better scotch ales. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Oct 30, 2009 Bottle ( 12oz ). Shared by garthicus with me and blankboy. Hazy orange-amber with an average frothy tan head. Aroma is sweet and roasty, citrus, grain and alcohol. The taste is almost sweaty-pungent, musty bitter spice balancing the sweet caramel. Slick, slightly boozy mouthfeel, weakly carbonated; pungently spicy in the finish. nice, weird, but nice. daknole (2802), Plantation, Florida, USA Oct 29, 2009 Bottle from ericandersnavy. Damn this is friggin good!! Amber pour with a creamy light tan head. Great peaty aroma with roasted nuts, caramel, and some lightly perceptible fruit. Flavor has a remarkably delicious peaty aspect with some nuts and lots of caramel malt. Damn good. Really good. durhambeer (1186), Durham, USA Oct 28, 2009 Bottle thanks to Cletus. Pours hazy deep amber with a large yellowish beige head. Lighter than expected. This is more a "Scotch Whisky" ale than a "Scotch-style" ale... very peaty and smoky and earthy and a bit rubbery. Funnily enough, my reaction on first smelling it was "What is that?... Oh, it’s Scotch." Surprisingly, not as sweet as expected... in a good way. Nicely balanced. Unique and quite good.
