Commercial Description:
A traditional India Pale Ale, the Elissa IPA is very hoppy with a properly balanced malty body. Elissa has huge hop additions in the kettle that give it a wonderful bitterness and is then dry-hopped in the fermenter to create the pleasant floral, hoppy nose. Our reverse osmosis water makes the bitter very soft with no harsh notes to it. The maltiness is derived from British Maris Otter malt. Its rich flavor stands up to the hops that would otherwise dominate this beer. The Elissa is an authentic version of the IPA style which was first brewed in the late 1700’s in England for transport to the British colony of India. The high level of hops combined with higher alcohol levels worked as preservatives to keep the beer good over the long voyage to India where conditions were not conducive to brewing. This beer is named after ELISSA, a tall ship now moored in Galveston. Ships like ELISSA were used in transporting IPAs to India. Saint Arnold is donating a portion of the proceeds of this beer to the Galveston Historical District for preservation of this ship.

Pours a very nice yellow reddish rust color with a small head, and below average lacing. Average carbonation with a fairly strong hoppy smell. Tastes of slightly hoppy bitterness backed with a light malt backbone. Tastes more like a pale ale than an IPA.

Courtesy of l4lb. 12oz bottle pours clear copper with off white head. The aroma is at first sugar sweet malts that bleed into pale to almost grainy malts, mild pine hops and sweet orange juice. The taste is mildly bitter to start with pine and citrus hops. Those notes are briefly interrupted by sweet malt sweetness. Midway and to the finish the hop bitterness builds to a tepid level.

12oz bottle, courtesy of lb4lb, I believe. Thanks, Deniz! Pours a hazy, orange-amber color; decently sized off-white head with fine-bubbled lacing. Pleasant soft, earthy and floral hoppiness in the aroma; some balancing British malts underneath. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: chewy hops (earthy, predominantly, and floral); some breadiness and biscuity notes coming through as well; balanced, tasty IPA. Medium finish: breadiness, dough, and some lingering bitterness; ends dry.

Well, its an IPA so you know what youre getting into. Hops supreme, noble hops. Super strong, has that great after taste that IPA fans either love or hate. Smells so sweet, and the taste it leaves on your tongue is a stingy maly-hops taste. So silky but so so much flavor. Its like a punch in the mouth. Highly recommended.

Thanks lb4lb for this one. Hazy amber pour with a medium sized white head. Aroma is caramel, grain, and skunk. Flavor is caramel malt, hops...and more skunk. Some roasty malts are thrown in as well. Finishes slightly bitter.
