Commercial Description:
A traditional India Pale Ale, the Elissa IPA is very hoppy with a properly balanced malty body. Elissa has huge hop additions in the kettle that give it a wonderful bitterness and is then dry-hopped in the fermenter to create the pleasant floral, hoppy nose. Our reverse osmosis water makes the bitter very soft with no harsh notes to it. The maltiness is derived from British Maris Otter malt. Its rich flavor stands up to the hops that would otherwise dominate this beer. The Elissa is an authentic version of the IPA style which was first brewed in the late 1700’s in England for transport to the British colony of India. The high level of hops combined with higher alcohol levels worked as preservatives to keep the beer good over the long voyage to India where conditions were not conducive to brewing. This beer is named after ELISSA, a tall ship now moored in Galveston. Ships like ELISSA were used in transporting IPAs to India. Saint Arnold is donating a portion of the proceeds of this beer to the Galveston Historical District for preservation of this ship.

Bottle courtesy of MaltOMeal. Pours a clear amber color with 2 finger head. Nose is fairly mild – caramel malts and light hops. Palate is light citrus hop, malt and a slight resin bite at the end. Medium mouth feel with spotty lacing. Not great, but not bad either. A nice sessionable IPA. Thanks for sharing Bill.

Poured a fairly standard pale copper color that was essentially clear and sat beneath a two-finger tall white to off-white head that produced average lacing. The aroma was soft citrus with bits of caramel and spice. Also some pine and floral notes. The flavor was more hops than anything else. Lots of pine and floral, with even some tea-like dryness to it. Not enough citrus and malt to balance it out. Average mouthfeel for this average IPA.

12 oz bottle courtesy of zinister. Pours a translucent copper color with sudsy white head that lasts only a short while. The aroma moderate in strength with citrus, caramel and hops. The flavor is similarly hoppy with the caramel dominating and light citrus filling in the sides and back end. The mouthfeel is silky smooth and satisfying. The finish is short and biter. Overall: a very enjoyable IPA. Recommended.

Tap - hand pumped cask @ The Gingerman in Houston. Obviously, less carbonation than btl or common tap. Cask conditioning softens and mellows out the sharp Cascade hop flavor. Aroma is citrus. Typically prominant alcohol taste is also softened by the cask. This beer is great in the bottle, but even better from the cask!

Nice golden color. A little hazy. Semi-lacy head. Grapefruit nose that makes its way to the palate a lingers nicley. Bitter finish. As good as the DFH 60 Minute I compared it to. I’d like to see them do an Imperial. With the exception of their Winter Stout, I’ve had some mighty fine beers from these guys.

Hazy deep golden with meidum off white head. Sweet fruity aroma with hops and caramel notes. Flavor likewise with notes of caramel, hops, and spices. Ends bitter.

The Fonefan/Brugmansia Cnudde tasting. Courtesy of Papsoe. Hazy orange-golden with a nice, creamy head. The aroma is fruity hoppy - mostly citrus fruits like grapefruit and tangerine. The flavour has a nice fruity bitterness with notes of citrus, mostly tangerine peel and grapefruit. It’s nice, but would IMO have been even nicer, if the caramel foundation had been stronger, and I think it would have been even better balanced.
