Commercial Description:
A traditional India Pale Ale, the Elissa IPA is very hoppy with a properly balanced malty body. Elissa has huge hop additions in the kettle that give it a wonderful bitterness and is then dry-hopped in the fermenter to create the pleasant floral, hoppy nose. Our reverse osmosis water makes the bitter very soft with no harsh notes to it. The maltiness is derived from British Maris Otter malt. Its rich flavor stands up to the hops that would otherwise dominate this beer. The Elissa is an authentic version of the IPA style which was first brewed in the late 1700’s in England for transport to the British colony of India. The high level of hops combined with higher alcohol levels worked as preservatives to keep the beer good over the long voyage to India where conditions were not conducive to brewing. This beer is named after ELISSA, a tall ship now moored in Galveston. Ships like ELISSA were used in transporting IPAs to India. Saint Arnold is donating a portion of the proceeds of this beer to the Galveston Historical District for preservation of this ship.

. Bottle. Thanks to fly for the bottle. Poured a hazy dark golden body with thin head. Aroma is sweet malt, light citrus. Flavor is light hops, citrus and a sweet malty body. Smooth with a nice floral mouthfeel.

Saint Arnold Elissa IPA 12 oz bottle purchased from Central Market in Dallas Poured into a shaker. Appearance: Copper colored with a very white head. Medium amount of carbonation. Long lasting head. Aroma: Mild amout of citrus hops with a nice scent of caramel. Taste: A slight amount of bittering hops hits the mouth but is overwhelmed by the caramel taste of the malt. Nice mouthfeel. A bit of cardboard also is noticeable. Overall: A pretty refreshing beer. Have actually had this on cask at the Gingerman in Dallas. Preferred the casked beer. Will re-rate when I try from a tap.

Thanks Deniz. Pours a copper amber with a one finger light orange head. The aroma is sweet, nice resiny hops, citrusy. The flavor is hoppy, not quite as upfront and distinguishable as the flavor, sweet, waxy. The palate is pretty full, nice carbonation and a light waxy feel.

Deep golden color with a small head. Aromas of flowers and grass, like you stepped outside in spring. Refreshing with an initial hop bite. However the bitterness vanishes into nothing.

Amber to orangish in color with a small head. Hazy look. Somewhat bitter but not really hoppy enough for my taste. Hoppy in the aroma with some citrus.

Cask Conditioned at the Ginger Man in Austin. Very nice. Fresh taste, hops just right, and served at the right temperature. I sat there in that franchise bar and enjoyed this one.

12oz bottle. pours hazy golden with white head. nose is soapy, faded citrus and juicy hop nose. flavor is a bit more malt focused at this point but i’m not sure its fresh, citrusy hop flavor. pretty decent.
