Commercial Description:
A traditional India Pale Ale, the Elissa IPA is very hoppy with a properly balanced malty body. Elissa has huge hop additions in the kettle that give it a wonderful bitterness and is then dry-hopped in the fermenter to create the pleasant floral, hoppy nose. Our reverse osmosis water makes the bitter very soft with no harsh notes to it. The maltiness is derived from British Maris Otter malt. Its rich flavor stands up to the hops that would otherwise dominate this beer. The Elissa is an authentic version of the IPA style which was first brewed in the late 1700’s in England for transport to the British colony of India. The high level of hops combined with higher alcohol levels worked as preservatives to keep the beer good over the long voyage to India where conditions were not conducive to brewing. This beer is named after ELISSA, a tall ship now moored in Galveston. Ships like ELISSA were used in transporting IPAs to India. Saint Arnold is donating a portion of the proceeds of this beer to the Galveston Historical District for preservation of this ship.

Pours a copper gold color, not a lot of head. A bit of citrus and molasses in the nose. Flavor is sweet malt with straight forward citrusy hop bitterness. Body is on the lighter side. Decent overall.

Bottle from bu11zeye. Thick almost wheaty gold color with small off-white head. Citrus and caramel malt on the nose. Flavor is rather straight ahead, hoppy up front with some toasted malt on the back end. Medium body with a bitter finish.

Pretty decent for a Texas IPA. Aroma is bready malts and grapefruit hops, similar to something pretty comon I have had, maybe Fat Tire? Appearance is a medium clear amber with a creamy off-white head with pretty decent lacing. The taste is very malty for an IPA, and all the bitterness seems to be from the malts and not the hops. The mouthfeel is watery and the carbonation is fizzy. Not a typical IPA.

12 oz bottle thanks to lb4lb. Pours a hazy amber orange with a small creamy off white head. Aroma of stale wet bread, slight citrus notes and caramel malts. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation and a nice hop bite on the finsih. Bitter overall flavor with some notes of dry toast and lemon rinds. I’m just curious if everything is bigger in Texas why isn’t this like a 17 or 18 ounce bottle.

I’m not a huge IPA fan, but this one has a very nice flavor and a rich caramel color.

Thanks lb4lb. Pours clear copper, medium white head. Aroma is floral hops all the way and big amount of malts. Flavor is pretty malty, caramel sweetness with big biscuity finish. Hops are citrus and floral, good amount of flavor and aroma. Clean drinking beer and the higher malts are complementing it nicely. Chewy and cloying yet smooth and easy to drink and low bitterness. Drank this in no time.

Bottle… Clear orange ale with a mid-sized, creamy, white head. Fantastic retention. Lots of peach in the nose along with minor notes of fresh, warm perspiration. Medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel up front that quickly becomes very astringent. Middling carbonation. Almost fiercely bitter at first, but then displays a lesser, pleasant, honey sweetness. Acerbic, dry finish. Kudos to TheBeerCellar for dropping this one off while visiting Florida!
