Commercial Description:
A traditional India Pale Ale, the Elissa IPA is very hoppy with a properly balanced malty body. Elissa has huge hop additions in the kettle that give it a wonderful bitterness and is then dry-hopped in the fermenter to create the pleasant floral, hoppy nose. Our reverse osmosis water makes the bitter very soft with no harsh notes to it. The maltiness is derived from British Maris Otter malt. Its rich flavor stands up to the hops that would otherwise dominate this beer. The Elissa is an authentic version of the IPA style which was first brewed in the late 1700’s in England for transport to the British colony of India. The high level of hops combined with higher alcohol levels worked as preservatives to keep the beer good over the long voyage to India where conditions were not conducive to brewing. This beer is named after ELISSA, a tall ship now moored in Galveston. Ships like ELISSA were used in transporting IPAs to India. Saint Arnold is donating a portion of the proceeds of this beer to the Galveston Historical District for preservation of this ship.

Floral and perfumed hop with just enough malt to give this a smooth sweet finish. Not the most complex ipa for sure but quite nice. I’d say Houston has itself a very nice go to ipa. Especially since you have to travel on interstate 35 quite a while before you find taps of Surly Furious or Two Hearted. Thanks Louis.

12 ounce bottle from theisti. Pours a hazed amber with a huge eternally lasting off white head. The biscuity malt along with the rich hops. The Maris Otter reigns supreme in this beer. There are plenty of hops to cover the tounge. Medium body. Enjoyed this one.

thanks to fantomas for sharing! Piney and risen dominate the nose with a hefty dose of malts, caramel with hints of spice. pours a pale amber with a thin white head that disipates quickly. Pine resin, citrus, grapefruit, caramel maltiness, very well balanced. Decent session IPA.

From the bottle from Santa, pours a hazy light orange, not much of a head. Aroma isn’t overpowering, caramel malts, light floral hops, smells just the way an IPA should. Taste is also just the way in IPA should taste. Nothing too outstanding or unique, just a good solid flavor. Malty, hoppy, with a bitter and drying effect in the aftertaste. I like this one.

Had I been ranking this based upon available Texas ales, I would give it a lot more credit, A healthy and creamy head was a good initial sign as was the bitter flavor, but the sticky carmel finish lacked a burst of hops to round out its decent alcohol level. This beer reminded me of many middle-of-the-road Northwest reds. I would drink this over any other Texas beer any day.

On tap at brewery. Poured a golden color with a nice white frothy head. Aroma of hops and citrus. Taste is very hoppy and has a nice finish.
