Commercial Description:
A traditional India Pale Ale, the Elissa IPA is very hoppy with a properly balanced malty body. Elissa has huge hop additions in the kettle that give it a wonderful bitterness and is then dry-hopped in the fermenter to create the pleasant floral, hoppy nose. Our reverse osmosis water makes the bitter very soft with no harsh notes to it. The maltiness is derived from British Maris Otter malt. Its rich flavor stands up to the hops that would otherwise dominate this beer. The Elissa is an authentic version of the IPA style which was first brewed in the late 1700’s in England for transport to the British colony of India. The high level of hops combined with higher alcohol levels worked as preservatives to keep the beer good over the long voyage to India where conditions were not conducive to brewing. This beer is named after ELISSA, a tall ship now moored in Galveston. Ships like ELISSA were used in transporting IPAs to India. Saint Arnold is donating a portion of the proceeds of this beer to the Galveston Historical District for preservation of this ship.

Many thanks to biz82 for the set of Arnold’s!

Pours a vibrant bronze body and a wispy white head. Aroma boasts bountiful boatloads of caramel and a spicy / woodsy / pine resin / citrus zest hoppyness. The flavor magnifies the sweet caramel malts, must be a huge grain-bill! The hops do a nice job rounding out the sweetness here in the finish… nice velvety body… very floral… A damn nice IPA!

Bottle courtesy of biz82. Pours a slightly hazy copper with a small diminishing off-white head. Pleasant aroma of floral hops, some citrus and pine hops as well, and a good amount of caramel malt. Flavour’s even better, a nice balance of the aforementioned hops and malt with some fruit thrown in and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied. Simple and flavourful, this is a very good IPA.

Draught. Pours yellowish, with minimal head. Aroma of hops, of course, slightly floral, a bit of pine, and just a touch of citrus. Taste is hoppy in the same manner, and somewhat bitter but very well balanced. Quite good.

A very nicely balanced IPA, a nice malty start but plenty of tasty hops in the finish- not too harsh like some IPAs. An excellent session beer- wish we could get it in GA.

I am not much of an ale drinker, but I like this version of the IPA. Saint Arnolds has done a nice job here. A wonderful aroma is followed by a well balanced malt and hop assertive flavor that is very nice. A good head lasts on this beer. I had a seccond and it was as good as the first. Well done.

As this warmed, the overly bitter end softens and really invites a warm maltiness that is well balanced and not too sweet.

Bottle courtesy of kaggie97. Pours hazy orangish/copper with nice off white head. Pine and orange zest up front with nice sweet caramel malt background. Flavor much the same, with orange becoming a little more dominant through the middle. Long lingering pine bitterness in the finish.* Well balanced malt/hop bill. Nice semi-sticky mouthfeel. Well done.
