Commercial Description:
A traditional India Pale Ale, the Elissa IPA is very hoppy with a properly balanced malty body. Elissa has huge hop additions in the kettle that give it a wonderful bitterness and is then dry-hopped in the fermenter to create the pleasant floral, hoppy nose. Our reverse osmosis water makes the bitter very soft with no harsh notes to it. The maltiness is derived from British Maris Otter malt. Its rich flavor stands up to the hops that would otherwise dominate this beer. The Elissa is an authentic version of the IPA style which was first brewed in the late 1700’s in England for transport to the British colony of India. The high level of hops combined with higher alcohol levels worked as preservatives to keep the beer good over the long voyage to India where conditions were not conducive to brewing. This beer is named after ELISSA, a tall ship now moored in Galveston. Ships like ELISSA were used in transporting IPAs to India. Saint Arnold is donating a portion of the proceeds of this beer to the Galveston Historical District for preservation of this ship.

As this warmed, the overly bitter end softens and really invites a warm maltiness that is well balanced and not too sweet.

Bottle courtesy of kaggie97. Pours hazy orangish/copper with nice off white head. Pine and orange zest up front with nice sweet caramel malt background. Flavor much the same, with orange becoming a little more dominant through the middle. Long lingering pine bitterness in the finish.* Well balanced malt/hop bill. Nice semi-sticky mouthfeel. Well done.

Aroma of pine stood out for me along with some floral aroma as well. Rusty copper color body and small head. Flavor was of fruit peals and was medium/full bodied. Cool and crisp and that citrus dry palate a good IPA.

Pours darker copper with a thin rim of bubbles and low carbonation. Beer is on the cloudy side. Smell is of pine, yogurt, oranges and roses. Taste is of oranges, pine and slightly doughy. Mouthfeel is thin. Finish is bitter and boring. Pretty one dimensional even for an IPA.

~~~~Thanks AndrewM!!!~~~~ Fruity aroma. This brew stays away from the piney, woodsy taste of a lot of IPA’s and leans more toward the fruitier, more balanced end of the spectrum. Very nice.
Courtesy of AndrewM <P> Hoppy aroma, but it is a softer type of hops...more fruity and deep than piney and sharp. Orange in color with almost no head. Very hoppy in the fore, but again it is almost apple sweet with just a bit of citrus and pine then some sweeter caramel flavored thick malts. Very different than most IPA’s I’ve had...it goes it’s own way and that is a path worth walking.
12oz bottle. Pours a light amber like color with a white head. Nose is kinda salty and smokey? Light hints of grapefruit in the backround. Taste is quite maly, little bit of fruit here and there, finishes dry and clean.
