Commercial Description:
A traditional India Pale Ale, the Elissa IPA is very hoppy with a properly balanced malty body. Elissa has huge hop additions in the kettle that give it a wonderful bitterness and is then dry-hopped in the fermenter to create the pleasant floral, hoppy nose. Our reverse osmosis water makes the bitter very soft with no harsh notes to it. The maltiness is derived from British Maris Otter malt. Its rich flavor stands up to the hops that would otherwise dominate this beer. The Elissa is an authentic version of the IPA style which was first brewed in the late 1700’s in England for transport to the British colony of India. The high level of hops combined with higher alcohol levels worked as preservatives to keep the beer good over the long voyage to India where conditions were not conducive to brewing. This beer is named after ELISSA, a tall ship now moored in Galveston. Ships like ELISSA were used in transporting IPAs to India. Saint Arnold is donating a portion of the proceeds of this beer to the Galveston Historical District for preservation of this ship.

Golden. Slightly hazy. The crispy flavour has notes of unpleasant thing like soap and other chemicals. Nice hoppy finish.

Recieved in a trade with Kevin. The body is a medium amber color with a quickly dissapating slightly yellowish head. The aroma is grassy with grapefruit and some caramel. The mouthfeel is sticky. The taste is grapefruit and full bread crust. There is a little bit of toffee. This is a nice IPA with a little hint of sweetness.

12oz. bottle. Hazy amber color with a small white head. Nice aroma of citrus hops and some mildly sweet malt. Flavor is fruity and floral with the hops up front and a decent malt backbone.

Head is mostly diminishing. Body is light amber. Aroma is lightly malty (cookie), moderately hoppy (grapefruit, resin), lightly yeasty (sweat). Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, heavily bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Not terribly notable.

Has a very clean flavor, some bitterness and some good fruity and floral hop flavors. Some grassiness. Bitterness lingers in finish. Overall a decent IPA. Thanks tyo Kaggie97.

Wow, at first I was confused as to whether I was drinking a beer or grapefruit juice. The aftertaste is certainly high in grapefruit sensation and the mouthfeel is thin(much like grapefruit juice). I know I seem to be harping on the grapefruit aspect, but try one of these babies and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about. Finish is very clean.
