Commercial Description:
A traditional India Pale Ale, the Elissa IPA is very hoppy with a properly balanced malty body. Elissa has huge hop additions in the kettle that give it a wonderful bitterness and is then dry-hopped in the fermenter to create the pleasant floral, hoppy nose. Our reverse osmosis water makes the bitter very soft with no harsh notes to it. The maltiness is derived from British Maris Otter malt. Its rich flavor stands up to the hops that would otherwise dominate this beer. The Elissa is an authentic version of the IPA style which was first brewed in the late 1700’s in England for transport to the British colony of India. The high level of hops combined with higher alcohol levels worked as preservatives to keep the beer good over the long voyage to India where conditions were not conducive to brewing. This beer is named after ELISSA, a tall ship now moored in Galveston. Ships like ELISSA were used in transporting IPAs to India. Saint Arnold is donating a portion of the proceeds of this beer to the Galveston Historical District for preservation of this ship.

Poursa cloudy orange hue with a halo of a white head. Aroma of pine, citrus, and a little dough. Mouthfeel is medium bodied. Flavors......the water of this brewery is definitely off...... dirty laudry with a an orange tainted tinge. A weird finish that starts semi-sweet then quickly dries out the tongue. mmmmmmm....

Appearance dings for the lame label and the screw-off, but a good orange-brown PA coloring with a blotchy film head. The aroma says "ham-handed Cascades hops." Dry, a bit grassy, with good acid balance, and with hopping which is not nearly as clumsy as the aroma would suggest. Finishes a bit woody/nutty, with a medium-long hop aftertaste. Body goes watery, and I wanted a little more fizz.

Poured an amber color with a small head. Heavy piney hop aroma with a nice malty addition. Light to medium mouthfeel with a malty beginning and a piney/citrus hoppy finish. Very smooth.. Nice IPA

Thanks to fly for sending 2 of these. Pours dark straw with medium white head. Aroma of floral hops, malt, slight peach and apricot. Tastes very hoppy, with a definite fruity element, finishing with more floral peppery hints. Nice balance and complexity. I can’t wait to open the other one.

Bottle, thanks joet. Hoppy nose, aromatic American hops. Lychee, pine, citrus in both nose and flavour. Starts of with a gentle hop sweetness, and finishes dry, with a gentle bitterness, nice, easy drinking IPA.

Bottle at Chris’ brought by joet. Aroma is floral hops and a touch of fruit. Hops and flowers in the aroma, fairly balanced although a little dry. A nice example of an American IPA.
