Commercial Description:
A traditional India Pale Ale, the Elissa IPA is very hoppy with a properly balanced malty body. Elissa has huge hop additions in the kettle that give it a wonderful bitterness and is then dry-hopped in the fermenter to create the pleasant floral, hoppy nose. Our reverse osmosis water makes the bitter very soft with no harsh notes to it. The maltiness is derived from British Maris Otter malt. Its rich flavor stands up to the hops that would otherwise dominate this beer. The Elissa is an authentic version of the IPA style which was first brewed in the late 1700’s in England for transport to the British colony of India. The high level of hops combined with higher alcohol levels worked as preservatives to keep the beer good over the long voyage to India where conditions were not conducive to brewing. This beer is named after ELISSA, a tall ship now moored in Galveston. Ships like ELISSA were used in transporting IPAs to India. Saint Arnold is donating a portion of the proceeds of this beer to the Galveston Historical District for preservation of this ship.

Having this on cask is the way to do it. The head and carbonation suffers somewhat due to it being a cask, but the taste is by far awesome. the nose is that of cascade hops floral, piney sweetness the color is a tad dark amber golden. the hops in this merry well with the overall flavor and has to be one of the best texas IPA’s out there. Several bottles, most recently from lb4lb. Thanks Deniz! Okay IPA. Same old, same old. Pine, citrus, floral notes. Malt is there too. Tastes like an English IPA and the commercial description sort of suggests that.

Draft (Press Box Grill). Pours a hazy orangish/amber color with smallish white head. Good aroma of citrus, a little pine and a touch of maltiness. Flavor is malt, with some of the citrus & pine notes and a little splash of floral. A very nice and drinkable IPA.

Bottle shared by Turd. Thanks, Sam! Fruity hops balanced by a decent amount of yeast. Not as citrusy/resiny as some IPAs. Perhaps an older bottle, but I thought this was maltier than most. Not bad.

12oz bottle thanks to KAggie97. Pours a nice orange amber with a very small head. Aromas of pine resin, citrus hops, floral hops, and a some caramel malt. Flavors are all hops, pine, resin and a citrus finish. Palate is medium bodied and low on carbonation.

IPA taste that one would expect complete with full hops and pine. Rather bitter aftertaste though.
