Commercial Description:
A traditional India Pale Ale, the Elissa IPA is very hoppy with a properly balanced malty body. Elissa has huge hop additions in the kettle that give it a wonderful bitterness and is then dry-hopped in the fermenter to create the pleasant floral, hoppy nose. Our reverse osmosis water makes the bitter very soft with no harsh notes to it. The maltiness is derived from British Maris Otter malt. Its rich flavor stands up to the hops that would otherwise dominate this beer. The Elissa is an authentic version of the IPA style which was first brewed in the late 1700’s in England for transport to the British colony of India. The high level of hops combined with higher alcohol levels worked as preservatives to keep the beer good over the long voyage to India where conditions were not conducive to brewing. This beer is named after ELISSA, a tall ship now moored in Galveston. Ships like ELISSA were used in transporting IPAs to India. Saint Arnold is donating a portion of the proceeds of this beer to the Galveston Historical District for preservation of this ship.

Beer from trade with Finnman. Pours a nice amber yellow with a slight off-white head. Nice malty aroma with solid pine hop bitterness. Flavor has malt, pine hops, honey, caramel, and some bittering biting hops in the back end. Mild and pleasant with a tiny hint of bitterness that sticks around.

Bottled. Pours a clear golden, brown colour with a medium sticky white head. Aroma is totally hops but nothing overpowering. Citrus with only a hint of pine. That holds true for the fllavour too. Just easy drinking citrus bitterness. Solid, easy to find IPA.

Bottle, courtesy of Rollinhard. Clear, dark-golden pour; medium head. Somewhat faint aroma of sweet malt and citrus hops. Similar flavor with more pronounced herbal hop bitterness.

Sampled from 12-oz bottle, shared by moelikebeer. Pours a semi-clear orange amber brew with an average off-white head that slowly dissipates and leaves behind some spotty lacing. Aroma of leafy and citrus hops, a hint of grapefruit and lemon zest and some light caramel malt. Taste has a nice balance of grapefruit and multi-grain malt with some mild bitterness. Finish is semi-sweet with a slowly disappearing grapefruit aftertaste.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with stopbarking. Pours a hazy golden amber with thin-moderate off-white head that lasted until the very end and left a thin veil of lace on the glass. Very pleasant aroma of fruity grapefruit and lemon. The flavor is malt up front followed by some bitter grapefruit that is less fruity than the aroma and is more about the bitterness than anything else. Bitter at the finish, but the bitterness does not linger. Medium bodied. A decent IPA but nothing out of the ordinary.
