ChainGangGuy (1444), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA May 11, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, amber body with a small, but lasting, white head.
Smell: Definitely a hoppy aroma, here. Chopped grapefruit rinds and flowers soaked in pine resin. Some malted grains in the background, but it’s mostly hops.
Taste: Brief caramel maltiness before the burst of citric, pithy grapefruit, pine needles, and discarded Mother’s Day flowers. Medium but substantial hop bitterness that lasts until the finish. Small taste of lemon juice right at the end.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A decent, above average IPA from the great state of Texas.
doubleo (652), San Diego, California, USA Jul 14, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours cloudy dark orange with a moderate sized offwhite head, specks of lace. Smells grassy hoppy with a major malt presence. Big and slightly sweet malts on the nose. Tastes slight hoppy grassy with quite a bit of nuttiness, from the malts I think. Malts are sweet as well. Medium body, good carbonation. daforrds (185), richmond, Indiana, USA Jul 9, 2008 not bad and not great, but just really good. Perhaps Jerry Quarry just fought in the wrong era. daknole (514), Plantation, Florida, USA Jul 8, 2008 Second bottle from mar today! This one is really awesome as well...I think a tad underrated. Amber pour with a medium sized head that sticks around and offers some nice lacing. Aroma is christmas trees and sweet malt. Flavor is very pine tree like and has a pretty nice kick bitterness from the hops. A nice malt bacground makes this well balanced. Very good. GAManiac (200), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jun 29, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a thin dense head that shows very good retention with a constant stream of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. There was a small amount of delicate lacing around the glass as well. The aroma is balanced with the malts and hops both contributing. The hops are represented by pine scents and are balanced by the slight sweetness of caramel malts. The taste is slightly hoppier than the smell with both citrus and floral tastes coming through on top fo the caramel malt background. The finish is a little bitter with the hops coming back. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with high carbonation and a slight pine resin stickiness. This is a quite drinkable and balanced IPA that doesn’t wipe out the palate in the process. A nice offering from Saint Arnold. GreatLibations (1240), Sasquatcho, Arizona, USA Jun 23, 2008 Burgess from the Louisiana Purchase. Pours amber with a solid lingering head. Good lacing with malty sweet aromas. Full nectar with good carbonation. A big malty backbone supersedes all other things but is generous enough to allow a twinkle of hopsy citrus rind to shine. The finish lingers. This is a hopped up amber by all accounts. A misrepresentation but tasty.
