Commercial Description:
A traditional India Pale Ale, the Elissa IPA is very hoppy with a properly balanced malty body. Elissa has huge hop additions in the kettle that give it a wonderful bitterness and is then dry-hopped in the fermenter to create the pleasant floral, hoppy nose. Our reverse osmosis water makes the bitter very soft with no harsh notes to it. The maltiness is derived from British Maris Otter malt. Its rich flavor stands up to the hops that would otherwise dominate this beer. The Elissa is an authentic version of the IPA style which was first brewed in the late 1700’s in England for transport to the British colony of India. The high level of hops combined with higher alcohol levels worked as preservatives to keep the beer good over the long voyage to India where conditions were not conducive to brewing. This beer is named after ELISSA, a tall ship now moored in Galveston. Ships like ELISSA were used in transporting IPAs to India. Saint Arnold is donating a portion of the proceeds of this beer to the Galveston Historical District for preservation of this ship.

on cask; A bright yellow pour that does continous bubbling and settles down to amber in color with a 1 inch white head. Sweet mild hop aroma. Perfect balanced hop flavor. A dry taste. So good. Good after taste. One if the best I’ve had, awesome on cask. Lacing on half the glass is perfect. Numbers now reflect cask rating. bottle; A rich golden amber pour with lots of foam. Smells great, very floral. Strong hop flavor, but not too bitter. Great taste. weak aftertaste. Mouthfeel is a little runny.

Wow, this pours a slightly cloudy very nice caramel color. Head is not that thick but rather creamy looking. Intense bitter hops notes in the flavor upfront that fade away to a mild sweetness. Aroma is basically a straight up floral hops. This is pretty much a nice beer, with nothing to outstanding though.

12oz from the Cellah, I was just in Maine give me a break. Shared with Cyn, Pours orange with a bright white ring. Nose is sweet and hopped with some nice malt balance. The taste is really nicely sweet and malty, this is a tasty beer, not sure if I think its an IPA though.

Pours a hazy golden amber color. Thin white head with moderate retention and good lacing. Aroma is strong piney hops and some sweet citrus. Slightly astringent flavor with floral hops with light maltiness. Medium mouthfeel with a bitter and lasting dry finish. A decent IPA, but nothing spectacular. However, if you get a chance, don’t pass up the cask conditioned version of this one--it is phenomenal. Very smooth drinking with lots of floral hops. Great for IPA fans.

12 oz bottle.Poured a cloudy red- brown with a thin white head. I liked the piny hoppy nose. The flavor that followed was similar. The mouthful was medium with a balanced malt to it,and a nice slightly bitter finish. Very drinkable.

Pours a bit light, more yellow than amber, thin head. Wonderful yeasty and fruity aroma. Very, very nice. Taste is a bit more malty than you’d expect for an IPA but still nice and hoppy/fruity. Very nice.
