| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 21, 2006 Bottle. Pours black, with dark brown tinges, and a small light tan head. Aroma and flavor are sweet and roasty malt, with some coffee and maybe chocolate, and more roastiness in the taste. Medium body and smooth palate. I think this is somewhat underrated. It’s a sweet stout, but not cloyingly milky sweet like many; perhaps more like a sweet porter. cbkschubert (2029), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | May 22, 2006 12 oz bottle thanks to 123456green. Dark pour with a smallish head. Aromas were very sweet, chocolate and some fruitiness. Coffee and much roastiness came through in the flavor along with a lot of sweetness and more fruit. It was a little thin, and seemed a bit more porterish than stoutish. It was pretty good. pantani (1902), Salinas, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 9, 2006 This beer has so much blackberry in it that it should almost be a fruit beer. It is blackberry with chocolate from beggining to end. It’s not bad, but way to fruity for a stout. AndrewM (126), Waco (Buckle of the Bible Belt), Texas, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Apr 7, 2006 Not digging this one. A bit of burned coffee / chocolate flavor, kinda watery, large bubbles give it a weird carbonation feeling. My least favorite St A brew to date. Definitely won’t buy again. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 25, 2006 Updated: Jan 25, 2009Original Rating (2005): This beer was too sugary and not "thick" enough. I didn’t get the warm fuzzy feeling I usually get from stouts since I was too distracted with the overtly sugary residue in my mouth. I think they can do better than this. Hopefully they will improve this beer by next year.
Re-rate (2008 version): The 2008 version is much better, with less sugary crap on the nose, and more a deep malt character along with a respectable hop finish. Flavors are typically deep for a stout as well with several coffee and chocolate notes on the palate. This is still a lower tier stout, but quite quaffable as the taste is light enough to enjoy more than one of these. pivo (2537), Germany
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Mar 12, 2006 Raosted malt nose with some licorice - like a Twizzler. Deep dark brown color with red hues, low fizzy head. Weak prune juice taste with a little roastedness. Watery. Good for those hot Texas days, I guess, but not good overall. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 11, 2006 No head. Clear dark crimson. Aroma is strange cider, almost vinous and certain band-aid. Taste is light cherries, chocolate, dry roasted malt. Slightly sour, sour finish. Strange beer.
