Pours almost black but lets in a touch of light. Big tan head, but fades very quickly. Smell is of coffee, dark roast malt and a hint of a cardboard too. Taste is sweet dark roasty malt, mildly bittered with a somewhat sweet roasty finish. medium bodied and more carbonated than ideal for a stout, but its easy drinking and actually doesn’t taste that bad. Honestly expected worse, and this is a decent beer all around, but no great standout qualities really, either.

12 0z bottle. Pours a dark brown with full-finger beige head. Aroma was of roasted malts. Flavor was roasted malt and coffee. Medium-to-thin mouthfeel with carbonation and dry aftertaste. reminded me more of a porter. Decent brew.

12 oz. bottle. Pours black with a tan head that fades quickly. Strong roasted , toasted grain smell. Taste is toasted malts with a strong , almost astringent coffee flavor ; finishes very dry . Light bodied for a stout. A smooth, easy drinking brew. Jan 2004

Pours black, thick brown head. Aroma of roasty sweet malt, wet straw. Medium body, slightly bitter, metallic, chocolate finish lingers. A bit light and too insubstantial for a stout.

I’ve waited a while to taste this, ever since I was introduced to St Arnold, I have somewhat enjoyed their beers. No Gunk on bottom of bottle, so there is some filtering. Beautiful stout beer pour, black with dissipating beige head. Nice stout aroma, rich dark chocolate, nuts, and some mild roast. Fun and nice immediate palate, bubbly fresh and stouty! Roasty and delicious, roast does not overwhelm. Very good stout experience. There is a developing attempt to be bitter, but the manners of this brew never lets it get there. No bitter aftertaste on the finish. Just what I expect from St Arnold, quality beer. Not disappointed. Much better than Bare Knuckle Stout Almost as good as Bells Kalamazoo Stout! Thanks to Cheapdark for the inspiration.

Bottle. Light brown colour with a little head. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel and chocolate. Light flavour of chocolate and careml, very nice and smooth. But nothing overwelming.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of madsberg. Clear, reddish brown with a basically absent, off-white head. Sweetish, roasted malt nose. Medium body, lightly roasted malt with a vaguely burned edge. Sweetish, dry finish without much bitterness. 310507
