beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 16, 2007 Pours a dark brown color with ruby highlights and a thin offwhite head. Appealing aroma of earthy and caramel malts with chocolate. The flavor also has the chocolate and caramel sweetness with some earthyness provided by the malt. The body is light to medium with a liquorous texture and moderate carbonation. Comments: A finely constructed beer showcasing the importance of every ingredient. Caramelly, spicy, yet with a working tartness that works as it’s not overly yeasty. Well done. Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 20, 2007 Clear dark mahogany body with a medium beige head. Well malted syrupy body with an initial attack of caramel and dates. Then the citrusy hops kick in with a lemony tartness and medium bitterness and astringency. Residual lime flavour. The clash of styles (although very un-belgian) worked for me. Rarely did I come across a strong dark beer that was as much a thirst quencher. Drinkable by big sips and the next sip couldn’t come soon enough. I liked it although it is as truly a pure Belgian as, let’s say, Henry Smith. Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Dec 25, 2006 A clear brown ale with a thin white head. Strong butterscotch aroma, caramel, with light nutty notes. In mouth, caramel malt with light coriander, and strong diacetyl developping. Medium bodied. Not my 3 mousquetaires favorites. On tap Dec. 23, 2006. rederic (1785), montréal, Quebec, Canada Dec 20, 2006 Dark mahogany hue, with some reddish highlights, and a small creamy beige head, leaving laces, caramelized malt, with a black cherryish and wildberry nose, with a flowery lavender accent, dark bitter chocolatey¸and hint of spiciness in the aroma follows through on a full-bodied palate with a crisp sweet black toasted malt character, with a nice flowery hops note, blackberry and blueberry fruitiness, a faint winey alcoholic warmth mouthfell, hint of roastiness and dark chocolate, leading towards an alcoholic, raw maltiness, fruity chocolatey dry hops finish. Quevillon (1518), Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, Canada Dec 14, 2006 Bu au St-Bock (12 oz). Bourogne foncé, moyen collet beige. Arome d’houblon sucré et légèrement épicé. Bon goût d’houblon fruité, un peu amère, arrière goût faiblement épicé. TaktikMTL (2745), Montréal-Nord, Quebec, Canada Dec 14, 2006 En fût.
