Jan 11, 2006 Light copper color with a small, but dense head of light cream bubbles. Floor malt and mild herbal hops in the aromas. Mild pale malt flavors with a touch of peat and touch of hops that balance well. Easy to drink. Again this brewery likes balance and I can appreciate that.

Dec 1, 2005 Draught pint in St. Louis. Clear copper body with a sudsy white head. Mild aroma and flavor of lightly fruity pale malt and some woody hop character. Medium bittterness in the finish. Clean but relatively bland and uninteresting.

Nov 16, 2005 a nice dark yellow pour with a thick whe head. wow it’s cask with with a nice head???!!!! has someone figured out how to do cask beers in the U.S???? a nice hard candy and butterscotch nose. diacetyl, boy howdy, like sucking on a butterscotch candy with a toothpick stuck in my mouth. a very dry finish. some lingering dry grass bitter.

Sep 17, 2005 at the Hop in the City. this is advertised as the Winter ESB’s underling and it kind of plays out that way. it’s moderately malty and mildly hopped throughout. a pleasant, but not all that interesting beer.

Sep 17, 2005 (Hop in the City) had this at the Schlafly beer fest. This one I went back for more. Lovely amber with fading head. Malt and hops on the aroma. Nice gentle hops character balanced by the malt flavor. A really nice bitter.

Sep 14, 2005 tap at taproom-pours light amber with a foamy white head and some lacing. caramel malt dominates the aroma with light notes of spicy/earthy hops and yeasty twang. the flavors are balanced with pale malts and the leafy english hops. lightly grassy/funky on the finish with a nice earth tone. good palate with medium carbonation. not a bad bitter!

Sep 2, 2005 Pours a copper/gold with a decnt head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is an outstanding balance of english malts and hops. Mildly citric with a slight vegetable note. Flavor is a great balancing feat as well. Beginning malty and mild, caramel malts dominate, moving into a warm, slightly citrusy mid section, then a good peppery bitterness, more toasty malts, followed by a grassy, dry finish. A very nicely balanced and well done beer. Perhaps one of the best bitters I’ve encountered.
