(Bottle) Pours very dark.Sweet liquorice and toffee/caramel aroma with some fruits and dark fruits. A bit plum-ish and tiny roasted. Undertones of spices, hops and some perfumy flowers. Medium sweet, liquorice flavour with some fruits and spices. Small, sourish hints. Pretty smooth, medium body. A very nice dubble.

Pours a medium brown with a couple inches of tan head. Pretty clear beer, until you get to the bottle of the bottle, and then swirl and dump the yeast. Then it is pretty murky. At first whiff, I thought I had an oud bruin, the smell of the beer and the cork had that delightful tangy winey aroma. But that did not carry over to the flavor of the beer. A slightly peppery taste was immediately followed by a very pronounced sweetness. Too bad - I thought the peppery flavor was excellent, the sweetness is overdone. Not a candi sugar or malty sweetness, more of a table sugar sweetness. It finished with some different kind of spice, maybe coriander and light cinnamon, which was then followed up by a very heavy mustiness or even a grainy dustiness. The yeast sediment from the bottom of the bottle produced just a hint of that tartness, which was quickly overwhelmed by sweet. I liked the spicy character of the flavor and the tangy aroma. I would have liked more of both. I would have liked less sweet.

Bottled. Dark red/amber coloured. Dense beige head. Yeast, fruits, spice and light caramel in the nose. Flavour has a light sourness to it. Yeasty and spiced with some fruity notes. Caramel again. Medium bodied. Sweetish and full of berries in the end. Nice one.

Bottle at the brewery (or should I say "farm"), very cloudy brown with a tan bubbly head. A rich and sweet malty aroma with a touch of spice. Some carbonation in the mouth, rich malty flavours again, with an earthy finish.

Brown body, small white head with good lacing. Very malty with fruity flavours (orange, prunes), toffee, cacao/chocolate and a slightly spicy finish. This is a mix-bag of anything and everything but it sticks together rather well. I had this one in a pub in Liège. It’s great to be a french-speaking canadian tourist in belgium. The french-speaking half hates me because they think my accent is that of a dutch and the dutch-speaking half hates me because I’m french-speaking.
