Aroma is candi sugars, fresh apple, a touch of pear. Flavor is slightly sour, mostly sweet with crisp fruit throughout, nice finish non-indicative of ABV. Very nicely done. Very cloudy orange pour is quite inviting, as is the fast rising head. Very buttery and yeasty aroma recalls Heavyweight’s Biere de Arte (and I don’t think it’s diacetyl). Slightly sour and musty in the nose too, and there’s a subdued sour taste along with some spice and malts. Seems more like a variation on a biere de garde than a strong, but that’s quibbling. This is quite enjoyable. emacgee (1864), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 20, 2008 Thanks to durhambeer. Pours a ruddy ruby orange with a two finger creamy orange head. The nose is sweet, apples, cinnamon, apple sauce, sweet spices. Nice fruity aroma. The flavor is very fruity, lots of sweet spice, cinnamon and nutmeg, apple, lightly warming alcohol, apple cider, has a lite tartness. Nice mouthfeel, finishes sweet and warm. aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 20, 2008 The color was hazy deep amber brown. The head was foamy, off-white, and creamy. The aroma was very spicy, sweet, some hops, and malty. The flavor was spice, jello, dark fuit, and raisin. The palate was medium-bodied. The finish was warm and spicy. bhensonb (4245), Woodland, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 15, 2008 750 ml. bottle, corked and caged, from Bottle Trek. The cork put a dent in the ceiling. The foam tried to escape the bottle. Hazy amberish color with a tan head that went up and down quite quickly. Aromas of cola, raisins, treacle, and light stone fruits. Medium plus body with creamy carbonation. Flavor matches the aroma. This stuff is really complex. I get a bit of chocolate towards the finish. Think there’s a lot of sugar, but it’s not sticky sweet. It’s not bitter, but there seems to be spice that offsets the sugar. It’s really good ale. I just had Fantome Black Ghost, and truly I think this is "better". MIght feel different on another day. Or not. Or to put it another way, who are these guys? brewandbbq (269), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 15, 2008 Pours hazy amber with a four inch head of beige. Several minutes is needed for the mass to subside, leaving behind a smeared webwork of lace.
A mix of porous and dense foam has admirable retention throughout.
Aromatics lead off with caramel, raisins, toffee, tart cherries, dark rum, and clovey phenols.
Traces of vanilla, pepper-studded lemons, and
brown sugar follow through.
Medium bodied and creamy. A slight chew to it, and tacky.
Caramel-laced fruit and cocoa start the pallet. A warming spiciness steps forward along with a trace of tartness and more raisins.
A firm vineous note becomes apparent as the brew warms, as well as warming alcohol.
Finishes slightly rummy, with traces of citrus and spice underneath.
Nice beer..Drinks like a small quad, as long as the slight tartness doesn’t turn the brew lactic.

The flavor is mostly sweet, there’s some malt and spices in there too and a touch of fruits. The body is light with an oily texture and gentle carbonation. ucusty (1881), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 8, 2008 Hazy orange pour similar to caramel. Yeasty aroma. Very fruity beer with notes of cherry, tart apple, grapes, and oranges. Quite a complex beer giving way to honey, and a nice sour funk. very refreshing on the venice beaches south jetty on the 4th trappist glass and all. You can only get away with that a couple times of year.! looks like the forth is one of them. KNOW THAT!
