Commercial Description:
Lectio Divina is a cross between an abbey double and a saison. Open fermentation with a saison strain and a dose of wild yeast at bottling add to the complexity.

Poured at the Juptier brewfest. Copper pour. Medium white head. Aroma is very malty and has some great apple notes along with some spices. Flavor is tart apple, malt, woodsy notes and a bit of a dry finish. Very nice.

Light orange color. Some carbonation. Light closes and spice, with considerable yeast. There is enough yeast and spice that I thought it was a saison. Good.

Bottle. dark amber beer with a low off-white head. Caramel, light fig/plum aroma. Caramel, light yeast, light dark fruit flavor. Medium-light body. Lingering caramel, light sweetness, light yeast. Very caramel. Yeast could be stringer.

Clear dark golden pour with almost no head. Aroma of spices and malt with some sweetness. The flavor is mostly sweet, there’s some malt and spices in there too and a touch of fruits. The body is light with an oily texture and gentle carbonation.

2009 Bottle. Nearly got killed by the cork, again, and it sent my dog cowering behind a chair (scared the crap out of him). Bottle gushed about a third of its contents. The beer continued to repeatedly gush over the rim of my glass once I had poured it as well (go figure...). Huge tan head, murky brown body with floaties. Aroma is muted with bread, spice, candi sugar and dark fruits. Taste is bready, slightly metallic, with dark fruits, candied sugar, apple and tangerine. Over carbonated and dry mouthfeel. Didn’t really float my boat.

In short:
How: Bottle 750ml, about 6 months Old. Shared on the Stone-Bourbon-Barrel-RIS-Hype-And-Disappointment tasting session with Montreal crew
The look: Cloudy dark-orange, very small off-white head
In long: Some of the flavours that came out were french toasts with some supermarket table syrup, wood juice and orange peels dipped in caramel. However what really stood out about this beer is how yeasty and dirty it is. This is not what we call a “clean beer”, quite the opposite actually. I don’t mind a dirty beer when it is done right and this was mostly the case here. But that dirtiness may tick off some people. One thing for sure this is what we can call a “Real Man’s Beer”, not really because of its taste, but because it took four of us to remove the cork.

750, corked like a beast. Thanks so much, Ibrew2or3! Medium amber with butterscotch highlights. Modest white film, no lace. Huge green apple nose. Medium, slightly creamy body carrying a ton of tight carb. Beautiful green apple and butterscotch mid-palate. Clean toasty finish.

Pours a hazy dull orange with thin white head. The aroma has a nice fruitiness with apples, grapes and pears followed by mild spiciness, yeast, candi sugar and a faint note of beat sugar. The flavor starts with an initial wave (tiny wave) of malt sweetness that quickly becomes over taken by red grapes, sweet red delicious apples, pears and beats. There’s also hints of candi sugar, spices and some faint yeastiness. Very nice.
