Cask at the Blind Tiger. Unbelievably murky yellow pour. At once spritzy and sloggy, with notes of cactus, pear, big yeasty spice. Nice sharpness and a touch of acidity. Goes down easy. A great effort.

Cask. Pours an amber body with a thin lacing. Over ripe and rotten fruit, apple juice. A vinous body with cherry and some light spices. I did not like this at all.

Cask at Rattle N Hum. The nose is lightly plummy with a fairly prominent vineous character. Sweet plums, acetone fruitiness and a touch of red grape character. There is a funky rotten diaper aroma up front as well. The flavour is odd... a bit of tart wine character. Cherry and a bit of oak, but also a funky weirdness. It smells pretty rough, but it tastes better than it smells. I still can’t say it’s good though.

Strange. Aroma is sour with some apple juice. Flavor is all apple juicy and odd sourness with rotten grain. Slight rubbing alcohol flavor mixed in.

Cask at Rattle ’N’ Hum: hazy deep ruby with nearly no head. Tons of acetone esters in the aroma. The solvently and plasticy phenols mesh with a subtle cranberry-like note. Slick body with a vinous flavor. Fairly dry with a cranberry tart note. Not much body or tannins. It’s quite simple and one dimensional, yet drinkable- minus the solventy aromatics.

Location: Cask at Rattle ’N’ Hum, 9/13/09
Part of the Gotham Cask Festival

Aroma: Some sour grapes, fruit, yeast, spice, wood, earth, citrus, quite a complex nose
Appearance: Nice reddish-brown color, a bit of clarity to it,
Flavor: A nice mix of flavors, similar to the nose, a bit of alcohol taste as well
Palate: Nice body, but quite a bit (maybe too much) alcohol burn
Overall Impression: First thing I have tried from Saint Somewhere, and this one will have me going back for more. I thought this beer was really nice and I hope to get a chance at more beers from these guys in the near future. This beer turned out to be quite nice, and I would imagine that the cask format really helped elevate the wonderful nose to the point it reached.

On tap at Capone’s. Poured a deeper amberish (almost brownish) color with a small sized off whtie head. Aromas of red wine/vinous, woody, oakiness, earhty, and musty. Tastes of red wine, grapes, wood, spices, oak, and citrus. Light lacing left on the glass.
