smith4498 (822), Miami, Florida, USA Jun 7, 2009 Cask @ Great Orlando Beer Festival. Pours hazy golden orange color with white head. Sour and slightly funky aroma with some lemon. Sour flavor and fruitiness with the spices of their regular saison. Some vinous notes, oak and brett. Medium body with minimal carbonation. Nice. juiceisloose (634), Windermere, Florida, USA May 23, 2009 On cask at the Redlight tent at the 2009 Great Orlando beer fest. This one pours a golden orange color with a small, foamy white head that recedes to some spotty lacing. The aroma hits with some tartness right a way to let you the barrel has soured up the base beer considerably. Tart citrus and acidity come up front with the brett and funky overtones to go with some red wine, and the spicy, cinnamon component of the regular Saison Athene. The flavor is very sour and vinous from the cabernet barrel with tart berries, citric acidity, flowers, and the cinnamon. The oak lends a nice woddy, vanilla character to sweeten things up as well. Medium bodied with fine carbonation and sour mouthfeel that is just really nice. The finish is tart with the citrus coming through. Really nice beer for a hot day. I look forward ot the bottle conditioned beer. This is another different and interesting beer from Saint Somewhere. hopscotch (5437), Vero Beach, Florida, USA May 20, 2009 Cask… GOBF ‘09… Murky golden ale with a small, fat-bubbled, white head. The woody, bretty, vinous nose offers heaps of fruit, red wine, vanilla, acidity and funk. When I dig in deep, I’m able to pull up some of the spicy, fruity, herbal notes of the base beer (Saison Athene). Medium to full-bodied with only a trickle of carbonation. Mouth-watering fruits and berries floating in a succulent sea of sweet, acidic, woody goodness. Moderate bitterness provides near-perfect balance in both the fruity flavor and finish. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA May 19, 2009 Cask at GOBF.
This beer had all the goodness of the regular Saison Athene.
Pours hazy golden/orange with no head.
Some sourness / tartness with light sweet sugar notes. Mouthfeel of barrel and light wine notes with the wood giving a superb mouthfeel as well as some of the light Cabernet touch.
Some champagne yeast, light spices, and herbs. Beer was very enjoyable a little on the tart side. bconley (351), Fern Park, Florida, USA May 19, 2009 On cask at the Greater Orlando Beer festival. Very tangy wine and fruit smell. The carbonation was almost gone from the normal saison. Very sour flavor with some grapefruity sting to it...Very cool dchmela (1406), Orlando, Florida, USA May 18, 2009 Cask at GOBF. Hazy Blonde pour. Nice wine barrel, cab oak aroma with some nice hints of apricot. Taste is funk, tart, acidic, oaky and dry. Really nice saison with lots of sour acity and barrel funk to make it interesting. redlight (1445), Winter Park, Florida, USA May 18, 2009 cask @ Great Orlando Beer Fest. Spicy tartness on the nose, some vanilla and oak, the brett is strong in this one. Pours a cloudy golden blonde with a solid white head at first tapping. Low carbonation typical of cask conditioned beer. The flavor is quite tart, some what acidic, very funky and earthy with traces of oak, finishes dry with a lingering tartness. Excellent in the florida heat at the fest! Can’t wait to try it bottle conditioned! GodOfThunder (855), Orlando, Florida, USA May 18, 2009 Cask at the Great Orlando Beer Fest. Thanks to Redlight Redlight for bringing it. Strong acidic tartness in the flavor. Sour apples and lemons with some spices. The wine barrel aging certainly adds a new level of tartness. The nose is funky and fruity. Pretty darn good.
