Cloudy pale straw color with an almost uncontrolable head right out of the bottle, dies down after awhile into a nice fluffy white head. Aroma of spice, sour/tartness, and yeasty funk. This is a great example of Saison. Flavor is crisp and refreshing with some citrus, spicy and dry, although not particularly hoppy, and slightly sour. There is a tartness to it, but it is somewhat overshadowed by the pepperiness. EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT!!!!! gueuzeisgod (109), Graham, North Carolina, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 13, 2008 Updated: Mar 17, 2008750 ml bottle. Chilled to about 50 deg f. Explosive CO2 behind the cork. 2007 on cork. Poured with some height to create a two finger head. Collasped down to a creamy rocky top. Tenacious lace. Light banana and bubble gum along with a bit of lovely floral hops. Bites the tongue with carbonation, cloves and tight hop bitterness. Malt sweetness rolls off the tongue leaving a dry bitter follow through. Really sets the bar for the style, something you should always have on hand. In my top ten beers that I would drink forever. theisti (1674), Leawood, Kansas, USA
| 4.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Mar 13, 2008 Updated: Aug 4, 2009750 ml bottle purchased at Beertopia in Omaha, NE - enjoyed with my wife (and family) at SPIN! Pizza in Overland Park (they do BYO Wine / Beer). Pour is a hazy, golden, orange yellow with a huge pillowy white head that eventually falls back to a nice one inch cap. A bit of yeast sediment is evident in the pour. Gorgeous. Aroma is crisp orange citrus, with beautiful musty farmhouse earthiness and a sweetness which is fruit like. Certainly not big fruit, but a very soft, delicate, even floral fruitiness. The yeastiness comes through on the nose as well. Flavor is a bit sour, a bit sweet, minerally, and just a perfect palate to be serious, perfect with food and thirst quenching. The farmhouse earthiness is present, yet never overpowering. It almost seems to be a reminder of where this beer is from. From beginning to dry finish, this beer is very clean - highlights and melds all the flavors beautifully. This was fantastic with Pizza. It has been fantastic in the past with Thanksgiving dinner. When people say "Saison goes with food" what I think they really are saying is that Saison Dupont goes with food. I absolutely love this beer and need to get more immediately. This is my desert island beer. thill25 (218), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 12, 2008 750 ml bottle...Poured a hazy gold color w/ a fluffy, white head. Nose was a bit a musty, with some spice, florals, white grapes and some yeast. Flavor was very winelike...almost like a dry Chradonnay w/o the prevelant alcohol...white grapes, citrus, raisons, grass/earth...Nice dry, clean finish...medium mouthfeel. Nice mix of complexity and drinkability. emerson430 (87), Lakewood, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 11, 2008 750 mL bottle purchased at the local grocery. Hazy, slightly orange pour with a whipped cream head. Lots of sediment, even early on in the pour. Lots of horseblanket and a tad sour. I imagine that the lactobaccillious working. Highly enjoyable, would try again. BeerEssential (96), Massachusetts, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Mar 9, 2008 Somewhat hazzy, but a rich, bright golden yellow colour with noticeable carbonation. Long lasting foamy head. Crisp, fruity scent which matches it’s taste. Crisp, clean with a gentle hoppiness. I have to admit my expectations are tainted by this beer’s reputation, but it is very nicely done. A bottle of this would be great to bring to a summer BBQ. leftarmover (8), Alberta, Canada does not count | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 8, 2008 Pours cloudy orange with a large white head, lacing the glass as you drink. orange citrus, sharp spiciness and musty farmhouse yeast, bit of sweetness. A full mouth rolled around effervesces into lots of prickly CO2, highly carbonated beer. Wet grass hops (stale?). Very good summer refresher.
