Commercial Description:
Saison Dupont is a classic Belgian farmhouse ale. This is a beautifully balanced, complex beer that has a refreshing fruitiness and long, dry finish. It is bottled unfiltered so it may be cloudy or have a slight sediment but this is normal and perfectly natural.

highly carbonated pale yellow beer, its pretty good nothing to set it apart from all the other Belgians though.

2005 bottle. Hazy golden, huge rocky head, great lacing. Citrus/floral character dominates up front. Background consists of pils malt and yeast, hints of pepper. Quick citrus/floral kick in flavor, fades to yeast, pepper, honey through the middle. Finishes very crisp. Lively carbonation helps to clean palate for the most part, but some lingering grass and honey still present. Glad I revisited, first few were so skunked, I didn’t rate them.

75cL bottle, from old notes. Slightly hazy golden yellow with rocky white foam, great retention and lacing. Aroma is full of citrus, green apples and pepper. Flavor is very dry, slightly hoppy with a very subdued maltiness, fantastic yeast phenols full of ripe fruit skins and citrus. Mouthfeel is very carbonated, but it wouldn’t work any other way for this beer.

Love this.
Golden unfiltered beer, a lot of yeast swerves through the bottle, like silk hurricanes.
On to taste because I have a hard time remembering the nose.
The interplay between citrus and dryness is perfectly proportioned here. Orval drinkers will recognize many subtleties there.
After a while the beer kind of balances itself between honey sweet - without the heaviness - and citrus spice - without the sourness. I find it hard to define but I am not an experienced rater yet. It is a very pleasant experience. I do like it better when the beer is cold (8 - 10C) and the tastes are a bit toned down.
And then it becomes dry and you have another sip just to be sure you didn’t miss anything. The 75 ml bottle was gone before I realised it. This is one dangerous beer.
There’s simply nothing wrong with it, although it is just a little too plain to put it in the highest percentile.

Poured from a 750ml caged and corked bottle and served in a tulip. This saison poured a slightly hazy golden color with a tight head of small, fizzy white bubbles that would not fade. Some thick, chunky lacing was left behind. Lots of active carbonation was visibly running up the sides of the glass. The aroma was made up of light lemon, orange, dusty yeast esthers, and also a touch of white pepper. The flavor was crisp, dry, and lightly acidic. It included notes of lemon, orange peel, grass, spicy yeast esthers, and a touch of lightly bittering hops. The mouthfeel was crisp and medium-bodied with a nice amount of lively, fizzy carbonation. This was a truly refreshing beer with a lot of complex flavors balancing very nicely.

From a bottle poured a hazy golden/orange with a good amount of head. Nice smooth flavor and finish, with plenty of carbonation.

Bottle. 375ml. Pours clear yellow with huge rocky white head although I did mix up some yeasty bits on purpose and taste them. Initially I thought this bottle was skunked, however the skunk aromas faded almost immediately though I fear it may be tainted still. Nose is lightly fruity, lightly citrusy, moderately yeasty, a has a touch of funk. Flavors are moderately bitter in an orange rind way, moderately spicy with no defined spices other than a hint of white pepper, lightly acidic, notes of lemon. It’s got maltiness, fruitiness, citrus, spice, hoppiness, and yeastiness but they are all bundled together and roll over the tongue differently each sip. I suppose I’ll label this one complex. It’s well carbonated but in a medium fizzy way. Finish is dry, bitter, with a long lingering hop flavor and a lasting orange rind impression. Has a kind of burn in the throat and nose like taking a bad dive in a chlorinated pool. Not sure if I truly like it, but I do find it interesting.
