acrdz (4148), Pennsylvania, USA May 3, 2008 750ml bottle pours muddy rust colored orange. Sweet cnady sugar nose resembles a tripel or some other strong Belgian golden, with some honey, wet hay, and some fruit cocktail sugary notes, and some apple and cinnamon spices show up when warmer. Pretty massive thickness for a saison, in fact to me it really falls outside of what should be called saison, instead it turns out to be just a big, sweet, sticky high alcohol Belgian. Some sour oranges and creamed bananas are tasted, along with the more donimant candy sugar, it’s big, for sure, but that doesn’t really make it better than if it were lower ABV, instead it seems to be kind of a mess, even a little hot and warming on the throat at times... but those are petty complaints when overall it’s very drinkable.
JoeMcPhee (3632), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jul 16, 2008 Thanks to notalush for sharing this one. Deep amber beer with a thick creamy tan head. Slightly hazy. Aroma is quite lovely, softly spicy, leathery with lots of dried fruits, apricot, peach and soft chewy fruit skin-like tannins. Rich sweet spicy fruitiness. Good dose of funky earthiness and bitter orange. Chewy palate, quite full-bodied and rich but the sort of dusty earthiness helps balance the richness. notalush (1971), Rawn-kawn-kohma, New York, USA Jul 14, 2008 Pours a slightly hazy amber color - a little odd for the style, but no points lost here - lasting, creamy head on top - fairly soft on the palate for something with such lively carbonation - a bit zesty and herbal, with some bitter orange peel adding a tartness to it - a little sweet, with a kind of bready maltiness that again is odd for the style, but seems to work - quite earthy and subtle - pretty nice. Linus_Stick (1480), Moon Township, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 12, 2008 A very nice saison if not a little too sweet. Pour was so so. Coriander, orange and spices. Pour was a dark gold with a 2 finger off white head. Taste was nice. Sweet brown sugar, spices, coriander in the front with an almost ginger aftertaste. Great carbonation that bites the sides of the tongue. Very crisp. Nice saison. thedm (3405), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Jun 25, 2008 This corked and caged bottled brew from Indianapolis, IN poured a large sized head of foamy off-white colored bubbles that left behind a hazy strongly carbonated dark orange brown colored body. The aqroma contained mild coriander and soft spicy malty notes. The mouth feel was nice in its crips tingly start and finish. The flavor contained notes of crisp hops, malt, mild coriander and was semi sweet. kiefdog (322), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 22, 2008 75cl bottle from World of Beer (Largo, FL). Rated on 5/3/08. Pours a clear dark amber color with one finger white head. Head recedes quickly but laces glass. Nose is complex with hints of fruit and cheese, french fries, cinnamon, bread, molasses and plums. Taste is slightly spicy and bitter with a bready-yeasty flavor and hints of vinegar and molasses. Medium-bodied all with a slightly watery finish. Notes of honey are present on finish as well. One of the better saisons we have tried of late.
