Commercial Description:
The most delightful way to enjoy Saku Porter would be in front of a fireplace or in candle light during those long and dark winter nights. This beer keeps you warm all through the coldest time of the year. Saku Porter is the ideal accompaniment to roasted meats and game. The fact that porter is also perfectly suited to light various desserts, especially those containing chocolate, may not be that commonly known. The ideal serving temperature for Saku Porter is rather high, 12–14 °C, a typical quality for dark beers. Saku Porter, a unique dark beer with strong taste, is brewed of water, caramel, light and coffee malts, hop and yeast, however, only once a year – for Christmas. Similarly to classical porters, Saku Porter is a strong (alc. 7.5 % of volume) full-bodied beer. A special jewel to Saku Porter is its high, rich, brownish foam.

Auburn, slightly darker than an IPA, lighter than an expected porter of any style. Intriguing nose, sour with chocolate and toffee notes. Not even vaguely porter-esque in the traditional style, full of caramel sweetness, some dark fruit, and maybe a bit of chocolate. Finishes dry and a bit sharp, but really isn't at all roasty.

(SCBE2003): Cloudy red brown with medium beige head. Aroma is dark fruit (raisin), sweet, chocolate. Taste is chocolate, dark fruit, medium sweet, light alcohol warming. Medium-full body.

This beer definitely lacks and needs more character for it to be considered a really good Baltic Porter IMHO. The head was small and tan with fine-small bubbles that quickly diminished. There was no lacing and some carbonation was observed. The body was clear and the hue was reddish-brown. The nose was sweet and chocolate and the flavor was malty and caramel. The mouthfeel was smooth, light and thin.

This brew pours a large creamy light brown head of mostly lasing finely sized bubbles. It has a transparent dark amber colored body with no carbonation. Its pleasing malt aroma is very mild. THis porter has an interesting flavor with a tingly mouthfeel. It is smooth with a nice malt roasted caramel flavor with a sweet finish that disappears quickly. A very nice dribnkable brew but somewhat lacking in character. It needs a bit stronger a flavor.

Bottled. Very black with brown head. Sweet and portlike, raisiny and roasty. Big licorice and coffee flavour. Salty stinging finish. How come even the worst brewers can make great Baltic porters?

rather ghpood baltic porter, full malt flavors with a nutty caramel quality. hides the alcohol well and a nice sweet aftertaste

Brown, clear, with a light tan head that doesn't last long. Nose is slightly metallic, sweet and chocolatey. Flavor is surprisingly good, medium-sweet with notes of chocolate. Mouthfeel tends toward the fizzy/bitey end of the spectrum.

Oh yeah! A good Bock - although the label says "Porter." But in the glass, it looks like a brandy, not a porter (granted, I'm drinking out of a snifter, which lends an air of Cognac-ness). Plenty of sweetness from the chocolate malt conceals the 7% abv almost totally. But this is so very different from Stepan Razin Porter and Utenos (other Baltics) that I've got to think that the Saku isn't quite true to style since the taste lacks the oily toffee and roasty notes you'd expect. Nevertheless, it's delicious.
