Commercial Description:
The most delightful way to enjoy Saku Porter would be in front of a fireplace or in candle light during those long and dark winter nights. This beer keeps you warm all through the coldest time of the year. Saku Porter is the ideal accompaniment to roasted meats and game. The fact that porter is also perfectly suited to light various desserts, especially those containing chocolate, may not be that commonly known. The ideal serving temperature for Saku Porter is rather high, 12–14 °C, a typical quality for dark beers. Saku Porter, a unique dark beer with strong taste, is brewed of water, caramel, light and coffee malts, hop and yeast, however, only once a year – for Christmas. Similarly to classical porters, Saku Porter is a strong (alc. 7.5 % of volume) full-bodied beer. A special jewel to Saku Porter is its high, rich, brownish foam.

(bottle) Very dark brown, almost black colour with a thick and dense, beige coloured foamy head. Roast-malty aroma, slightly sugary with caramel, cacao and a touch of liquorice sweetness. Roast-bitter flavour, pleasant roast-malt character with caramel, liquorice and notes of chocolate in the background, medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Dry-ish, bitter-roasty finish with a coffee-like aftertaste. Nice and pleasant.

Courtesy of oh6gdx. Thanks, Pat. Highly concentrated chocolate, raisin, malt aroma. Hints at brown sugar and fruit cake without totally being evidently comprised of those aromas. The body is dark ruby brown to black and holds a compressed tan head that is fairly bubbly. Fairly hot alcohol in the fore followed by some metallic/tin notes then burnt/roasted sweet malts that taste a bit like if you pan fried sweet raisin bread. Raisins, licorice and caramel notes linger. Decent though comes off a bit hot.

Dark brown with a brown creamy head. Malty caramel aroma - easy roasted malts & metal. Smooth roasted malty taste more caramel than coffee with again a metallic note. Slight sweet with a dry bitter end!

Bottle, 7.5%. Mildly bready aroma, I do not get any roasted notes or the like. Black colour, big stable light brown head. The flavour is a lot more powerful than the aroma. Slightly sweet liquorice flavour, turning more bitter before going liquoricy again. Good, sticky mouthfeel. Very nice.

500 ml bottle, via Papsoe. Pours a very dark brown body under a fizzy and foamy light brown head. Good head retention partly due to the moderate visible carbonation. Classic Baltic Porter nose, lots of burnt caramel, some roast, bitter chocolate, light alcohol, light tar, and a little licorice. Flavor is burnt caramel and dark brown sugar in large quantities up front. Some light malt derived bitterness on the finish that keeps the sweetness in check. Some light plum and dark fruit notes throughout. Mouthfeel is full bodied and a little thick with soft slightly fizzy carbonation. Slightly oily in texture. A pretty nice beer. Very surprised to se the relatively low ratings for this one.

500ml Bottle.
Baltic version of "porter" - more like a stout. Good at all temperatures, refreshing cool even though it’s sweet and strong. Ignore the label - this isn’t "smooth". This is a dragster ride with thick black tyres and smoking tarmac! The first drop will cover your tongue with a spicy sweet stoutness. Punchy burnt maltiness in abundance.

Bottle. Pours a black color with a longlasting tan head. Roasted malty aroma with some hints of alcohol and dark fruits. Also some hints of chocolate. has a sweet slightly rosted malty flavor with hints of caramel and chocolate. Has also some hints of dark fruits and licorice. Dry roasted malty finish with a long aftertaste of chocolate and bitterness.

From a 500 ml. bottle with a blurb and serving temperature instructions on the back label, no freshness date I could find. Poured a nice dark caramel brown with a foamy, fluffy head that settled into a thin, tiny bubbly lacing. Aromas of brown breads, caramel, brown sugar, a subtle licorice and a dark rum fruitiness. Even, steady moderate carbonation and a crisp, slick, velvety smooth medium bodied mouthfeel. A slightly different, but still a tasty porter, brown grainy breads covered in caramelized sugar, caramel and toffee, a light dark fruitiness, purple grapes and raisins, the hops are subdued and soft, the alcohol mixes with the fruity flavors and provides a subtle warmth in the palate, and a grain bready, sweet caramel finish. This is a very enjoyable Baltic porter, different, but interesting, tasty and balanced, if you like porters, then you need to try this.
