Commercial Description:
The most delightful way to enjoy Saku Porter would be in front of a fireplace or in candle light during those long and dark winter nights. This beer keeps you warm all through the coldest time of the year. Saku Porter is the ideal accompaniment to roasted meats and game. The fact that porter is also perfectly suited to light various desserts, especially those containing chocolate, may not be that commonly known. The ideal serving temperature for Saku Porter is rather high, 12–14 °C, a typical quality for dark beers. Saku Porter, a unique dark beer with strong taste, is brewed of water, caramel, light and coffee malts, hop and yeast, however, only once a year – for Christmas. Similarly to classical porters, Saku Porter is a strong (alc. 7.5 % of volume) full-bodied beer. A special jewel to Saku Porter is its high, rich, brownish foam.

Medium light brown head. Opaque black body. Dry burnt chocolate aroma with notes of wild berries and metal. Very harmonic. Taste is deep, sweet chocolate and licorice, very well balanced with wild berry notes. Smooth, dryish mouthfeel. Dry, roasty coffee and chocolate aftertaste. An excellent porter! (0.5l bottle.)

0.5 l bottle. Black with diminishing tan head. Sweetish, roasted and malty aroma with toffee, licorice and vinous roastedness. Sweetish and roasty flavor with notes of coffee, charcoal and salty licorice. Bittersweet and roasty finish. Quite soft and oily palate.

Bottle. Pitch black colour. Little light brown head. Aroma of roasted malts and and bitter chocolate. Flavour is roasty, bit sweet with dark fruits, liquorice and good chocolate and then comes the strong alcoholic aftertaste.

This one is the Christmas version, but it’s supposedly the same as the "normal" porter. It’s black/brown with a moderate head. The aroma has notes of coffee, a bit of chocolate, licorice, berries and alcohol and it has an OK bitterness. I think the alcohol is too dominant in the flavour.

(Bottle BB 30/10/07) Roasted malty, slightly coffee and caramel aroma with a hint of alcohol. Dark red brown colour and brownish, average size, more or less fully diminishing head with faint lacing. Sweet, burned, coffee, licorice, slightly caramel and slightly bitter flavour. Softly carbonated, medium-bodied palate with a hint of alcohol. The best Saku brew I’ve tasted so far! 15/12/06

Roasted licurice aroma. Quite black with a thick light brown head which disappears quickly. Thick, roasted coffee and chocolate. Very bitter and fulfilling finish.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours a clear, dark brown with an orange glow and a bubby, dissipating beige head. Roasted coffee aroma. Fairly full-bodied with accents of hard roasted malt, lightly sweet chocolate, some dried fruit and lightly vinous port notes. A light bitterness from the malt. Quite delicate. 301106

Bottle at home - shared with Mette. This is not my first, I had one in Tallinn on our Balticum-summertrip, but this is the first time I rate it !! Black - small white head. Roasted, burned, raisins, chokolate, coffee - very nice, I will bye this beer again.
