Commercial Description:
The quality of this top fermented, Bavarian beer speciality is unique to Austria. Normally weizenbier is brewed using a short fermenting process, but Salm has chosen to stick to the traditional, old brewing process. Because the yeast for weizenbier has an important role to play, we only use original yeast from a renowned Bavarian brewery.

Draught at the brewpub
Muddy deep blond color; creamy head. Aroma of spices, wheat. The aroma is lightly fruity, banana. The flavor is more sharply spicy. The final is on the dry side. A correct Weizen.

Draught @ Salm. Cloudy golden with large thick white head. Nice aroma of bananas and maybe vanilla and lemons. Surprisingly full bodied with creamy carbonation. Taste of lemons and bananas migrating to pleasant maltiness with a hint of bitterness. Not a favourite style, but a pleasant beer if a little light on flavour; the mouthfeel is distinctive.

My Bottom Line:
This classic Weizen sends big bananas and bready, doughy yeast to nearly smother the delicate herbal hops and citrusy wheat.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A thick head of foam stays atop the cloudy dark beige.
-This is very reminiscent of l’Amère à Boire’s Hefeweizen.
-The mouthfeel is generous yet crisp in the finish.
-Cloves are there too, of course, but not as much as the fruity esters.

On tap at the brewpub.

Draught at the brewpub.
Cloudy yellow coloured, medium sized white head, canned corn and slightly banana nose. Acidic yeasty fruity taste with notes of spices and hops. Refreshing and easy drinkable weizen.

Draught at the brewpub. Very cloudy orange colour. Nice stable creamy white head. Plasticky banana flavour. Creamy mouthfeel. Spicy finish, quite some band aid.

On tap at the brewpub. A fairly standard hefeweizen, with plenty of bananas and cloves, a lot of yeastiness and a decent dry finish. Drinkable.

Comments: A simplistic and accessible weizen whose excessive cleanliness and less so sourness get a bit boring.
