Bov (4604), Bienne, Switzerland Jun 16, 2008 courtesy of Toni Flükiger - cloudy orange colour, little irregular foam; aroma of fruity hops (orange marmelade, citrus) and gingerbread; respectable malt body and with a fair bitterness; quite dry and logn fruity hoppy finish - straightforward and very interesting mgbridges (2), Auckland, New Zealand does not count Mar 8, 2008 In bottle, thanks to Kieran in Wellington. Lovely golden colour. Moderate hop aroma. More body than I expected, which was nice. Excellent bitter orange marmalade character. Refreshing, pleasing. beervis (212), People’s Republic of Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, England Feb 12, 2008 Bottle from ASDA, Shipley. Quality bitter - pours light amber with small diminishing white head, brisk hoppy aroma. Flavour starts malty with a little toastiness, giving ways to typical Goldings hop flavours. Aromatic and smooth on the palate, finish dry, hoppy and lingering. Not bad at all. imdownthepub (3995), Banbury, Oxfordshire, Oxfordshire, England Nov 29, 2007 Bottle conditioned, 500ml. From Taste Buds, Adderbury, Oxon. Gold, hazed with slight head. Quite a sharp, lemony, orange flavoured beer, hoppy with touches of doughy yeast. Light, almost insignificant malt, a touch of grain. It’s fine without reaching the heights. yalnikim (640), Wellington, New Zealand Nov 2, 2007 Tasted 02/11/2007. 500ml bottle from Regional Wines.
Pours a brilliant pale gold with a soft white head. Rich but clean aroma of cookie dough and caramel pervades at first, followed by a dusty floral hop notes with hints of old oranges. I’m surprised intensity of the Vienna malt - it really sticks out. Slick through the mouth, a combination of the torrified wheat, dough-like Vienna and big oil hoppy flavour. Big bitterness, lingering, very enjoyable, with more of the bitter orange character and a touch of unwanted grainy astringency. Extra points, without doubt, for the fantastic descriptive labels. A nice bitter, well-travelled.
