Commercial Description:
Created by Samuel Adams Employee Lili Hess, Hawaii This is a very creative spin on a pale ale. As Lili describes it, "It’s like you are drinking a pale ale after biting into a fresh green seedless grape." This delicate brew is light-bodied with unique sweet, yet dry flavors from the grapes. What a combination...

Bottle. Pours a light copper color with a small beigh head. Aroma of grapes, grain, light citrus, and some grassy hops. Flavor is lightly sweet and malty with light caramel, grapes, citrus, and a touch of honey. Light bodied with a dry and fruity finish.

Pours a translucent orange/brown with a thin head. Not too much aroma, slightly sweet. Weird taste of fruit/caramel and a little weird bitterness. Didn’t balance well, and I actually only drank half the beer since I didn’t enjoy it at all. The other longshot they put out this year was much more enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours a reddish-orange color with a nice white head. Aroma of wheat, also I got some prune and light fruits. Taste of wheat (predominantly), honey (only slightly), and some sour grape (also hard to taste, but it was there!). Mouthfeel was a bit thicker, stickier than I’d expect from a pale ale. Also pretty sweet. Hmm...I’m not sure why more people don’t like this beer, I thought it was an excellent example of a fruity pale ale (wouldn’t classify this as a fruit beer though...). I think people are deceived by the name, but I enjoyed the subtle sour grape taste admidst a nice, sweet pale ale.

a very queer little beer... pours a basic orange-light brown colour .. good head, some dissipation ... somewhat muted aroma, some light sweetness, could a A grape?... Taste is muddled, overly sweet and strangely bittered- doesn’t seem to fit the name or style.. a big disappointment, i can see why a Sam Adams employee won the right for this to be brewed... it doesn’t suck and is somewhat enjoyable but needs something...?

Bottle from Bev Mo. I was happy to see this since I had read about the new Long Shot series and the controversy surrounding one of them. Poured with a thick and beautiful white foam head and the liquid was a dense amber orange hue. The aroma was typical of pale ale but also smelled similar to a Vienna and the grape was noticeable and made me want to drink from my glass upon pour. I found a slightly tart presence of sour green grape that tasted ripe and blended perfectly to make delicious pale ale. Although, I did find this ale to be very tasty, I don’t believe I would buy it again.

Golden color with a light-med head. Aroma is a big grainy, sawdustly, and lightly hopped. Flavor dominated by light sawdusty malts with a hint of British hops and light grape - not grapey/vinous enough to really be all that complex. Sorta OK, but I feel a bit let down by any "contest winner" that tastes this mediocre.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium amber. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain, husks, wort), lightly hoppy (apricot), with notes of diacetyl, metal, and cotton candy, hint of shrimp. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, unclean. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Very unpleasant in both nose and mouth. I have the feeling BBC is more to blame than Ms. Hess, though.
