ditmier (1019), Boise, Idaho, USA Apr 21, 2008 2008 Bottle - Slightly thick, aroma of malt fruit and bread, I was very surprised with this after the other longshot winner, light on the front end, but the flavour comes through - fruit, spice and yeast, mouthfeel is nice, it lingers with carbonation and alcohol, overall, pretty darn nice in my opinion... Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Apr 18, 2008 Good pour, a cloudy brown body with a thick light beige head. Very good weizenbock aroma filled with ripe-ripe bananas, clove, soft malts, brown sugar, a few raisins, and warm peppery spices. Back to a "regular" good on the flavor, a sharp jab of alcohol being somewhat of a distraction on the otherwise smooth blending of all elements from the nose. Pleasant fruity finish. All in all, a dandy job by Rodney Kibzey.

Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Apr 17, 2008 Pours a cloudy, dark root beer brown with a sizable, dense, creamy beige head that laces nicely. The nose is of cloves, candy sugar, dark fruit, light banana and a touch of alcohol. Nice. Medium-bodied and silky, the palate finishes moderately spicy and surprisingly warming. A round wheat body is backed by notes of dark fruit, cloves, pepper, banana and alcohol. While this is one of the better Sam Adams brews that I’ve tried, I have an aversion to heavily spiced beers. This one started really nicely, but, as I approached the bottom of the glass, it began to grate on me a bit with its overt spiciness. I generally like the fruity and normally subtle esters that come with German weissbier yeast, but this tastes as though they’ve actually added spices to the recipe. As it is it’s pretty good, but if the spiciness were toned down a bit, I’d have enjoyed it even more. raymow (738), Bensalem, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 17, 2008 Not bad. Nice color, flavor and aroma. I could notice a decently strong alcohol presence without knowing ahead of time the ABV (not that I’m complaining). TURDFERGUSON (1594), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Apr 17, 2008 Bottle shared by Ethan the other night. Thanks bro! Pours a deep, muddy, brown with a nice tan head and lace. Nose of banana bread, orange peel, spices. Flavor has more banana, spices, and some clove. I found the mouthfeel to be a little sharp around the edges. Caught a bit of a cough syrup thing going on that I didn’t like too much. Otherwise, a pretty on point weizenbock. Alcohol well hidden. pojo41 (315), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Apr 17, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Biggmike. Nice caramel color. Good fluffy, white head that left a pretty good lacing on my glass. Aromas of spice and bananas with the banana dominant. Flavor of wheat, banana and spice with a touch of the soured taste common to weizenbocks. Good mouthfeel and pretty easy drinking for a beer over 7% alcohol. carboloader (318), Houston, Texas, USA Apr 16, 2008 Pours almost opaque with tall thick tan head that lasts forever. Looks beautiful. Aroma is cloves and esters. Flavor is single-minded to me -- too much cloves and spice with little backbone. Probably just not my style. Nice alcohol kick, but body feels thin and empty except for the clove, nutmeg, and esters. emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Apr 16, 2008 Pours an impressive cloudy reddish brown with a one finger frothy tan head. The aroma was very pungent and nice, banana nut bread, cloves, wheaty sourness, spicy. Similar flavor profile, spicy, banana, sour wheat, warm, clove and nutmeg. There was a slight offtaste that I can’t describe, a bit of a bite on the side of the tongue. Nothing major. Crisp and well carbonated. Very enjoyable brew, especially from SA.
