afireinside96 (807), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 14, 2008 bottle. pours a deep cloudy brown with a nice tan head on top. nose of banana, yeast, citrus, and leather. alcohol is present in the flavor as well as banana and caramel. theres some smoke in the finish as well. excellent head retention. I agree with bigtaster, the beer is well made but it just isn’t my style. bigtaster (184), Grand Rapids, USA Apr 13, 2008 Pours dark brown with a amber hue. Aroma of chocolate, banana, and alcohol. Creamy, estery body, with notes of banana, clove, chocolate, and caramel. Soft, complex, and well-balanced. Good beer but not my style. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Apr 13, 2008 12oz bottle-pours a big retaining light tan head with cloudy brown/orange color. Aroma is nice banana, medium malt-sweet toffee initially, then some medium fruit. Taste is banana, medium malt-sweet toffee/anise with some sharpness, earthy hops, medium fruit. . Mild carbonation. mtdshn (174), Moline, Illinois, USA Apr 13, 2008 Weizenbocks are one of the least favorite beer styles I’ve had, and I definitely don’t make it a habit to drink them regularly, but my position now as a rater must be objective and grade it just like any other beer I’ve had. For a weizenbock it’s really an impressive effort. A good deal of viscosity with this one and nice amount of head - not too much, not too little. Standard when it comes to aromas - dark roasted malt, caramel, raisins, some smoke. Mouthfeel is very full-bodied with a nice amount of citrus tartness. This is a pretty heavy beer for a weizenbock but it’s definitely a good effort. I’d like to see Sam Adams produce this one on a regular basis instead of turning out the same stuff every time. unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA Apr 11, 2008 thanks to nimbleprop. 12oz bottle. Deep, muddy brown, big foamy tan head. Aroma of ripened fruit, bananas, cherries. some notes of clove. Flavor of a bold yeast profile. Huge malt character. very chewy, full bodied. Flavor is very complex. consistes of sweet malt and lots of fruit esters. This may be the greatest Sam Adams I’ve had! Cheers! Codythegreat (133), Carrollton, Georgia, USA Apr 11, 2008 I’ve never had a weizenbock before so I have nothing to judge it against but I don’t think I liked it that much. It kinda had a wierd aftertaste. I drank this out of the bottle. yesyouam (587), Fairport, New York, USA Apr 10, 2008 Sam Adams LongShot Weizenbock is a cloudy brown lager with a thin, leathery beige head with some oily bubbles. It leaves good lacing. It has a burly, grainy aroma that’s the slightest bit sweet. There are grassy hops and a woody spice in the nose. It’s pretty full bodied; fluffy, crunchy on the palate. It’s the slightest bit sweet on the tongue. There is a definite prune flavor. The bitterness is dark chocolate and some kind of berry. It’s like a brownie with gravy on it. Not for the faint of heart. This will put hair on your chest. Tastes rather like an ale. BückDich (4785), McCall, Idaho, USA Apr 10, 2008 Bottle: Thick muddy brown pour, very little head or lacing. Nose of clove and strong yeast esters, some bread and rye stuff going on as well. The flavor is sharp with esters, a dark banana fig sweetness coats the palate. Light hops, subtle roasty toasty notes. A bit low in carbonation for this much sugar and alcohol, it’s a bit hard to drink. Unbalanced almost. I like the intensity, but there must be a better way to bring cohesion to this chaos.
