jcp23 (47), Duluth, Georgia, USA Mar 12, 2009 Bottle into Weizen glass. Interesting how the bottle says, "For brewery-fresh taste purchase before month notched."(June ’08). I guess it doesn’t matter when you actually DRINK it, as long as you PURCHASE it before the notched date. Super! As I poured this beer, my kitchen and nostrils were filled with bouquet du banana. Very nice! Impressive dark, hazy, reddish-caramel color with beige head and some trailing lacing on the glass. Flavor is richly malty, with chocolate candied banana and spiced with clove. Medium creamy body with edifying carbonation. Unlike lesser beers, the aroma retains in the glass down to the last swallow. Delicious and quite enjoyable. An extra 1/10 of a point rewarded for extended shelf life. Nice work, Illin. Rodney! War4soccer (115), , Nevada, USA Mar 5, 2009 amber color, good head, vanilla cloves, fun beer..creamy throughout..chocolate tdcritch (112), Missouri, USA Mar 4, 2009 Deep amber color with a good head. Good creamy body with a vanilla taste and some cloves, not bad. dwaggs2 (530), Lee’s Summit, Missouri, USA Mar 2, 2009 Amber pour with a two finger head. Thick and creamy body. Medium body. Aroma is fruit, malts, cloves, and yeast. Flavor is well balanced. Hops and malts. Good stuff. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Mar 1, 2009 12-oz. Thanks, Headbanger! Pours murky dark brown with a big, thick, creamy tan head and decent rings of lace. Big bubblegummy nose. Not really much else happening there. Creamy medium body. Brown bread, bubble gum, and a bit of watermelon on the mid-palate. Not far off Silver City’s weizenbock, but pretty far off the pleasures weizenbocks have to offer. This is kind of a doughy belgian ale, at best. That said, it has no flaws. It’s just that the recipe is kind of lost. presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Mar 1, 2009 Dark copper. Fair head. Banana and dusty chocolate smell. Sweet banana up front and baking soda in the back. Thin body. Chocolate, chalk and dust. No joy. tmoreau (525), Lombard, Illinois, USA Feb 27, 2009 12 oz. bottle to a large snifter. Poured a hazy, brown/amber color, with a foamy, off white/light tan tone that diminished slowly, leaving some nice, clinging lace. The aroma was a little bready, with notes of sweet, dark fruits, some spice as clove, and a touch of ripe banana. The flavor was a continuation of the aroma notes along with some tartness. Nice alcohol presense commingled well with the various flavor notes. The mouthfeel was creamy, with some light bitterness in the finish. A savory representative of the style.
