allfreej (358), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Feb 29, 2008 Bottled. Pours dark brown, with a nice tan head, leaving good amounts of lace. Nose is cloves, esters (banana). Flavor is wheat malt and bananas--the banana bread comment of the previous reviewer is a good one. Finish is slghtly sweet. Medium mouthfeel. Nice example. illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Feb 29, 2008 Bottle at Bocktown in Pittsburgh. Pours a muddy brown with a nice khaki head. Medium bodied with an earthy texture. Aroma of banana esters and yeast. Flavor of dark wheat malt, clove, banana bread, and dark fruit. Moderate amount of sweetness. Finish is yeasty with a good amount of phenols (perhaps a little too much). Not too shabby. jredmond (1015), New Jersey, USA Feb 29, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown body with light brown head. The aroma is wheat and something else...The taste is wheat and a strange finish...perhaps some dark fruit? Im not sure. Good beer. nuplastikk (1159), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Feb 29, 2008 12oz bottle. Thick deep brown-amber color. Intense banana aroma. Sweet pungent taste with lots of banana flavors. A little more one-sided than most German Weizenbocks, but still very enjoyable. Mellows a little bit mid-glass, with some tasty malt characteristics complementing the yeast.
wcampbell (572), Central, South Carolina, USA Feb 29, 2008 Updated: Aug 10, 2008Really good, I was very surprised. After the grape pale ale I wasn’t expecting much. Full bodied and reasonably complex. Dark fruit flavors and armoa. Sweet, a little too sweet. Almost no bitterness. drewbeerme (2224), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 28, 2008 Updated: Apr 3, 200812oz bottle. pours murky dense plum brown with creamy off white head. a big banana aroma is noticed instantly, while some cloves, yeast, dark fruit, and hints of caramel come into play. flavor has rich toffee, plums, and banana and cloves. balanced and pleasantly rich. lively carbonation. this is a wonderful weizenbock. if I didn’t have to buy 3 grape ales with it I would buy much more of this. RollinHard (748), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Feb 28, 2008 Pours a very dark brown, cloudy, with a huge creamy off-white head. This looks brilliant. Aroma hits you in the face with pungent smoke, burnt grass, hay, tons of clove, mild banana as it warms, and maybe a slight vinousness. Flavor is equally heavy on cloves, subtle smokiness, a dry grassy taste, toasty and subtly chocolate malt, pretty dry flavors overall. Very spicy and pungent. Finishes lightly bitter and almost roasty, grassy hop and clove flavor, pretty dry too. Nice creamy body too, substantially chewy and full without being heavy. I still prefer Aventinus because of it’s slightly sweeter slant, but this is superb. I love the pungent smoky yeast and clove notes. jclu37 (4), USA does not count Feb 28, 2008 Love this beer. I hope they market it more. I don’t like thinking that it is a "limited time" beer
