| 1.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 1/5 | 5/20 | Sep 15, 2006 Pour is a cloudy brown with a white head. Aroma is black licorice and reminds me of jagermister which im not fond of. Flavor is a little better. Some molasses and caramel with notes of vanilla. Still this is almost in the awful catagory. I can understand trying something new as a brewer but when it sucks just dump it and start over. Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA

I have not had a beer in a while, wonder if I made a bad choice? Yuck. Lots of licorice and herbs. I get that this is an experimental historice recipe, but, yuck. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 12, 2006 Strong sweet licorice and molasses aroma. I like this already. Dark honey in color with a white head. Taste immediately lives up to the nose’s expectations. What a nice licorice and sweet molasses ending. If you like Dutch licorice, you will love this bier. Full mouthy feel. Taste resides in the middle of your tongue. This is a truly filing bier, a solid brew. Just what you would expect from a root bier (sassafras) brew. Some nice mint and anise aromas as well. Appearance: Orange-brown in color and very sludgey looking. Lots of particulates floating about. Head was light yellow, large and rocky. Flavor: Wow! That’s horrible. Unsweetened root beer, grass clippings, burnt plastic, band aids, and cough medicine. The worst tasting beer I’ve had in a long, long time. I don’t understand how someone at the brewery drank this and said, "Yea, that’s a good one. Let’s bottle it up.". Revolting. Palate: Medium bodied and chunky. I could actually feel the floaties in my mouth. Blech! Overall: It’s just wrong. citybeagle (1), USA does not count | 1.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 1/10 | 1/5 | 1/20 | Sep 10, 2006 I bought this as part of a special edition 4-pack. It has a nice aroma, much like good root beer, but the taste was horrible. A watery, flat brew with overpowering spices and licorice flavors. After that, the rest got poured down the drain. | 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Sep 10, 2006 Hazy amber with a small soda like tan head. Nose is fresh herbs, spices, earth, root beer soda. Smells nice. Taste is a different story. The flavors do not match, more like a gridlocked tug of war on the palate. Mouthfeel of heavy soda. I applaud the effort, but they missed with this one. Don’t think I’ll be able to finish it.
