Feb 14, 2007 Of the four, this offering had the least to offer in the taste department (read: did not taste good at all). It pours a cloudy amber color, and settles a medium amber color with a small, light brown fizzy head. Fair lacing behind a fully diminishing head. In one pour, it was sparkling and in another, hazy and cloudy. Aroma is of honey, licorice, and medicine. Smells like root beer, very strong aroma. Here is where it lost us. Initial flavor is heavily sweet, slightly mellowing to a moderately sweet finish which hung around for way too long. Light to medium on the mouth, it has a watery taste with flat carbonation. This beer was better left in 1790. Comments: we had high expections from the aroma, but it falls flat with the taste; tastes like medicine; we did not want to finish it, but we are bound by the NBLB doctrine.

Feb 10, 2007 This has to be one of the most horrific beers I have ever tasted.This ranks with Sams other great brew, Triple Bock.Heavy medicine aroma with a slight sweetnees.Flavor of licorice overpowers this brew.They say its a recipe from 1790, well it sure tastes like they brewed from the same pot but didnt clean it out.definate drain pour.way dissapointed.

Feb 4, 2007 bottle - Pours amber with no head and some light, visible carbonation. It smells rather strongly of sassafras. The root beer taste didn’t seem too terrible at first, but the finish is absolutely awful. I really wanted to get the taste out of my mouth.

Jan 31, 2007 Wow. Hardcore sassafras aroma. Poured rusty orange with tan, quickly diminishing head. The flavor is intense and rather apalling. Heavy on the sugars and heavily carbonated. A little of the licorice vapor hangs in the chest. Unbalanced. At least there was only one in the pack.
